Whining on deceleration...

I've noticed this lately. When I decelerate from about 60mph down to about 20mph, I get a slight whirring/whining sound. It sounds like the car slowing down after a dyno pull. Now I have tried it in gear, out of gear, clutch in, clutch out, etc, and it doesn't make a difference. Its directly related to wheel speed. Now my rear tires are VERY bald, almost to the cords, my new tires are getting put on tomorrow, and I am pretty sure this will take care of it, but I was just checking in-case it doesn't.

Check your diff fluid level, too.

After that, perhaps rear bearings or rear CVs.

I have that sound also... I believe changing the tires will make a great difference....also many other have complained about this and have found that mazda says it's normal...get the tires changed and then report back and see if it has changed any and we all can try and narrow it down from there!

If I remember correctly you are supposed to do fluids at every 30 - 50K

Well I got the new tires on. Whine is still there. Its quite faint, yet there. I may pick up diff fluid and do that tomorrow. I have a feeling this might be because I drift...

I get a noise kind of like that that i can hear coming from the gearshift.

I just had fluids done recently. So it's normal, especially if you have a short shifter and have removed the sound dampening insulation around the shifter boot.

If you drift a lot I would try a heavier diff oil, 75w140. Or redline shockproof

redline 75w140NS is what sipe (teamrx8) recommends.

i run redline mt90 (75w90) because im not as hard on trannys as he is. if you drift, you might want to check into the redline 75w140NS.

She does fit in my trunk!

Update - Put Redline MTL in my trans, and Redline 75/90 in the rear end today, as well as changed the oil. The whine is more faint, but its slightly still there. I think its probably normal. I may switch to a different heavier fluid next summer, but right now, I have hankook icebears on it, which are spendy, so no drifting for me. Does shift nice though!
