in fact, i really don't understand running synthetic in this car. i mean, doesn't it resist burning? this car is supposed to burn oil, right?

and i'd be careful with very heavy oils too since you don't want your pressure to go too high. what's the clearance like in these things anyways? oil as heavy as nycp runs, i would postulate, slow you down.

i know there's lots of threads on this, and i haven't read any of them. this is just my 2cents. and it's usually worth far less than that.

sorry op for not following the guidelines. it's funner for me this way.
I think when they mean the motor 'burns oil', they're saying it injects it in with the fuel to lubricate the seals; and that by simply driving it you do have to keep your eye on oil consumption. Not that it actually burns it

Bloody hell...not OIL AGAIN!!!...

Just to clear up matters, and those talking about oil pressure issues if you use thicker grade oil, etc, etc.

It is all BS.

In Australia, the Mazda made and printed in Japan owners manual says you can use ALL oil weight varieties, from 0W50, W50, 5W30, 15W40, 20W50.

DEPENDING on your local climate (temperatures).

Worldwide, ALL the RENESIS major or Internal engine components or parts are the same.

Ash, you forgot one thing.

It seems that people REALLY REALLY dont know what the word "RECOMMEND" means.

5w20 is RECOMMENDED weight. not "REQUIRED"

if you want best of the best MPG. not engine longevity. use 5w20. its all your choice.

and the pressure thing ... yep, its total bs.

Very true...
Just for the record I use DIRTY NATURAL Castrol GTX-3 Mineral 15W40 (SHOCK, Horror), and change every 3000 miles and do a "double flush", that is Drain Old, Fill, Start and Get Hot Engine (5 minutes) and drain again, Filter Change and fresh refill...for the same cost a container of 100% Synthetics here in Oz.

It's already lasted three times as long as yours. But not yet as long as my brother's Toyota.

I think it has begun. The car is getting slower, I've been overtaken by Priuses since I started to use RP.

is there a specific problem with that ??

do you have any more info on it that you can share ??

i know its a very cheap mediocre oil, but i change it every 3K miles.

remember older 2005 owners with like 50K miles on the original engines, like mine, cannot change to full synth.

(remember expo's case) 8)

No, no.

It was just part of the document that was shared, where someone at Mazda is recommending *against* synthetic or semi-synthetic oil. In the same document, the recommend *for* Dexelia. People in the U.S. sometimes refer to this document as evidence that synthetic oil is bad for the Renesis. But I think use of Dexelia is very rare in the U.S., so it seems to me the faith in that Mazda notice only runs so deep. Just struck me as funny.

I assume in other countries, Dexelia may be more commonly available or more competitively priced.

Personally my opinion is that any oil that meets the specifications will do just fine. We obsess too much on this subject because Mazda mis-handles the issue, imho.

HOORAY..Spot on...apart from the Mazda miss-handle bit..

When you look at a worldwide market it is easier for Mazda to say NO to Synthetics for the main reason Mazda does not want owners to be complacent with changing their engine oil, because some people believe if you use synthetic oils you don't have to drain or renew it as often as Dino.

IMO That is what Mazda is afraid of...

Also Mazda have consistently said they will not recommend any "type" of oil unless they have tested it, again they can't test all the oils in the world, Dexelia (Europe) oil was actually tested by Mazda Japan for approval to use in the RENESIS.

Just like Mazda will not recommend this brand or that, they would rather sell you their own brand named parts and products.

By the way I haven't wiped my *** yet either since Mazda hasn't confirmed any toilet paper.

No major problem or issue so far. Last 10K miles, it burn 2 Quartz of oil every other fill up. If My AC is on, oil burn quicker. No loss of power. a little ruf on idle but still hit 9k rpm every 2nd and 3rd gear. Car still run like a champ!!!

Please give us the history on your car. The service it's had and parts replaced. Type of driving it gets(long commutes, short trip), fuel used(reg or prem), ever flooded, mods installed. Have you ever run any engine de-carbon cleaner to improve compression? Just any thing that you can add.

Like to know how the AC will cause more oil use, a little extra load maybe?

Bought my car in Oct. 2005. Whatever gas was in the tank but my first fill up was 92oct at 76 gas station. After two tank of 76's gas, I did some reading an was believed that chevron gas would be better to clean out carbon built up. So I am sure to say, my car has been running on Chevron 91 oct with some occasion fuel injector cleaner throw in it. The tank has not had one drop of 89 oct since I bought and drive it.

I drive my car everyday and everywhere and loving every moment I am in it. I do however drive the crap out of it. I mean the crap out of it. I shift from 1 to 5. under 50Mph regardless where I am I do not use 4th and 5th. Under 124Mph which is the fastest I ever go and it only happen once, 5th is as far as I go. I only use 6th on very long trip which I drove her to Vegas once.

After 3,000 miles break in, the car was running on Idenmitsu 10W-30 for about 15000 miles. After that I have since been using Royal purple XPR 5W-20. I only have suspension mod Eibach Springs and Tokico D-Spec. Exhaust is Racing beat. K&N filter drop in. Recently replace Koyo Radiator. Did try Racing beat dual res. wife make me take it off because of the smell and smoke. (My son have autism!)

I think the engine is working well for me because I always keep in above 5,000 RPM and up regardless and not worry about MPG. I also make sure the oil level on the dip stick never drop too low.

I don't think is the AC. I think the only time when I turn on the AC is when outside temp is really hot. Therefore, the OMP must have inject more oil to lupe and cool down the engine. Though, there are times when i drive around with windows all down and taking in the summer heat, it didn't seem to burn as much oil as when the AC is on. I really don't know.

I really don't remember how many miles. I do however remember how many times.

A little after 15K miles, did a recall - Dealer claim they replace new coil and spark plug. After that I replace one set of coil bought from mazdatrix around 60k miles. Spark plug, I change them one every 15K miles. The first 4 sets were OEM, that last 3 set was purchase at Racing Beat. I think I do need to replace new coils and spark plug soon.

Oh! and I am on my second red top optima battery.
