Why is this closed off?

Just wanna know why they would close this off?

Edit: I know it is in the wrong section. I'm posting over the phone and didn't see that it was in General.

Who did that?

Is heater hose line or A/C line? Heater Believe that line should run to your thermostat housing? cant remember off hand. For A/C it should run to the front of the engine bay beside the coolant overflow

The owner before me. I did get the car off an auction for a steal but never knew why this was closed off. The guy before did take care of the car so I am not worried about it that much.

My guess is that the core leaks. Closing off is much easier than removing and fixing.

Comparing against pictures i can find it looks like that line goes over and up to the a/c compressor. I dont have my 8 nearby so i cant compare in real life but the other two lines must be the heater core lines. Check and see if you still have the a/c compressor? Maybe the previous owner removed it for weight savings or if the compressor seized.

Either way it seems to be only one end of one of two closed loop systems. If that was the heater core then it'd be leaking unless the other end is also plugged maybe by just looping a hose or something.

lower right hose is the heater inlet line... goes into the heater core from the engine outake on the other side of the engine below the throttle body.

lower left hose is the heater outlet line... goes into the water pump.

as others have pointed out the upper line is your AC line. You have no AC system. Looks like the entire line is missing.

Just so happens I still have a related thread open from the other day while researching the best way to do a full system back flush.

Can you trace the hose coming back from your AC compressor? The missing line includes one of the recharge valves.

Better question would be if the OP is aware if they even have an AC compressor anymore

Then by the AC blowing colder it is merely blowing in ambient outside air or simply recycling cabin air at cabin ambient.

You have no AC without a compressor. Wasn't sure by your responses if you realize that.

Honestly, beats the hell out of me. Today was 72 degrees and i turned the AC on full blast and it was ice cold, engine was warm as well. I'm gonna take it university Mazda sometime in May and have them replace the engine and see if they can reinstall the AC compressor

P.s Air recycle was off the entire time I had the AC on. I flipped it back to heating and it was blowing hot then back to cold it was blowing ice cold again.
You might have a hard time believing me but this the truth.

I suspect we have a different definition of ice cold. Mine involves the freezing point of water

In your case it sounds like somewhere around 70 degrees.

It all starts with asking the right questions

Check and see if the condenser is also removed, if so grab some speed source pulleys and block of that plate in a professional matter and be done with it.

Im replyign just to keep this thread alive...it's like a thriller movie...does he have
A/C or does he not? Where is the cold air blowing from? Dun duh duh!! It was the butler who did it, it's always the butler.

No but seriously im quite curios if this guy is serious or yanking everyones chains. Maybe the previous owner was some sort of aircon genius and relocated it or something. Crazier things have happened like landing men on the moon.

OP grab a camera and a thermometer and snap a video of the ac keeping the therm cold for more than 30 seconds.
