Will dealership give me oil under the warranty?

I'm at about 1700 miles and I'm starting to run low on oil. It's strange that the oil level light flashes on when I'm driving at around 77+ mph, but goes off when i lower speeds to 67 mph and below.

I've got the $500/maitenance thing going on and I wanted to know if I could have the dealership fill me up about 1 qt or so of oil, or does it have to be under the "scheduled" maitenance? BTW, what is up w/ this maintenance? Am I supposed to know when I can come in to get free maitenance? Or can I just go in whenever I want?

Thanks.

Free maintenance

The deal is for scheduled maintenance only. The manual gives two different schedules: 6 months or 7,500, 4 months or 5,000. You have the choice of which schedule you follow. The manual also lists what you get at the various scheduled maintenance visits.
We're on our own for any other maintenance. Of course, that's separate from warranty work.

Does anyone know what brand of oil is used? I have 1700 miles as well but I have not seen a warning light yet.

I would rather not have to mix oil manufactures if I do not have to.

5-20 right? If manufactures are not a big deal, What brand is better.

Sorry for the lame questions but this is my first rotary.

Hmm, warranty for excessive oil burning is indeed an interesting question

The only time I burn a bit of oil is when I'm driving very hard on the street or during a track day where I'm WOT just exiting the corners on the straights.

I'll burn a full quart on 4+ 30 min sessions on the track.

I'll burn 0 noticeable on the street if I do an easy commute for the week.

Ugh, all this info and I'm under 60 days of ownership, LOL.

I have gotten free oil on 2 occasions from my dealer. Said check oil was coming on, they put about a half a quart, and I continued on. This was usually when I was bugging the parts department about mazdaspeed and other parts. Never cost me anything. I do have a case of 5W-20 Castrol GTX ready whenever it needs alittle oil though. Good luck,
Aaron
by the way, you can get the case for cheap at Walmart

I'm a Castrol user myself, when I can't use my Mobil One. What brand does Mazda put in? Do they have their own or possibly a company-recommended brand?
