If it takes a long time to crank and same symptoms then about 80% sure it is not the starter. How many miles on engine? First thing to do is check compression. In my particular case that was masking the issue. But got the cheapest one from Autozone, actually a refurbished one.

so i bought my car from a family member who it ran perfectly fine for. I iwned it a little over a month and clutch shredded (we knew the pilot bearing was on its way out, but also was throwout bearing) so i replace complete clutch (pressure, friction, throwout, and pilot) get everything back together and it wouldnt start at all so did a deflood and still no start. Came back with cel code p0335 and p0336 both are eccentric shaft sensor codes. Tried cleaning it nothing. Ran across this post so tried changing starter battery and plugs wires and coils and still getting these codes finally got it to start about three times on seperate occasions after about a hour or more of tinkering with it. Code is still on andnit idles fone and revs strong when i finally get it started even got ballsy and drove it for little a while when i get have shut it off 3 out of the 3 times i finally got it running tried to start ot back up and just cranks not even trying to catch except rarely... air pump went out on me today when i finally got it to start took me about 2 or 3 hours. Ive cleaned and checked all the grounds i could find.

some please help me i love this car and have about 6,000 into it and its still bones stock....

No idea... So you cleaned the eccentric shaft sensor? Should be silver after cleaning it if I remember. umm no idea here... Clean the Mass Airflow Sensor? Sensor good on cat? You said you already cleared the computer. How did you go it? The 20 break pedal thing? Check coils again for good connection.

May want to create a post on this one and see what the guys think.

all new spark plugs coils wires and still having problems with hesitation and misfiring at 8000 RPMs reset using the 20 brake pedal pumps ran fine for about a day and then started same problem I removed the positioning sensor and it was very dirty and I cleaned it reset everything again took the car out it ran great and then the next time I took it out now it's missing at different RPMs and overall just not running very well please help

I was having this problem and my screw holding my ESS in was loose. Came out with some metal shavings on it. once i cleaned it up i was able to screw it back in snug and the misfire went away after reinstalling and doing the 20 brake stop reset.

Just curious, what people have done to
"fix" the problem.
Actually. Mine started having this damn problem AFTER I changed the starter motor. Problem seems to be intermittent and I can't for the life of me figure out what is happening.

I’ve got a 2006 Rx-8 and I’ve got a similar problem but with mine the car will only bump start after 4mph and once it’s started it’ll be fine, I’ve had the crankshaft sensor changed and it started a couple times all good then I drove it home and took it to petrol station and didn’t want to start again and threw up the same code, I’ve had spark plugs, upgraded starter, d585 coils, new alternator and new battery done on it I know it’s not low compression related as I’ve had all of that checked out I’m thinking it could be starter as when I had a bad throttle body we tried starting it a few times then had that replaced too and it was fine for a couple days and after 4mph I get an engagement noise which sounds like starter motor, anyone have any ideas, thank you.

Help pleasee!!!

could someone please help. im being driven nuts trying to figure this out. I keep getting a p0336 code on cold starts and when the car stalls. im having a rough idle that some times worsens when under load but recently it just rough idles all the time. compression is good. ive replaced the crank sensor twice. and ive tested the wires and noticed something weird but maybe normal? one of the two wires connects to the + and - of the battery. and the other connects to the + of the battery (not directly but just in the cars circuit) which I though was weird. then testing it once again later one wire connected to - and the other to +. but im not sure whats supposed to happen or whats wrong, bc recently on another test the wires dont seem to be the issue. im just confused. EDIT: [I did check the wires. they are all good and nothing is being shorted. but im still confused as to whats going on here]

coils, spark plug wires and plugs were all replaced

Don't know if you ever resolved this but check out my thread here: https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tro...sensor-273004/

I was having a weird, sporadic p3306. Changed the ess, checked wiring to the sensor and pcm. Sometimes it tested okay, and other times it didn't - when it didn't, there was a short to ground (continuity to chassis) on one of the terminals of the ess sensor plug. I can't remember which but the shop manual tells you how to test it.

I took off the intake, coils and bracket to see the wire for the ess terminal going into a plastic conduit routed behind the coils. The plastic had gotten brittle and the wire was exposed and shorting somewhere. This happened most often when it rained and I had driven through a puddle.

I was short on time and light so I cleaned it up the best that I could and slathered a bunch of marine grade liquid electrical tape that I had all over the wire then wrapped that electrical tape. I did a shitty job but it has worked for months and has not come back aside from this week when I accidentally slipped in snow pouring oil in and a bit leaked down that side of the engine. Cleaned that out the best I could and the code went away again.

This had driven me crazy for like a yea because it was so intermittent, but it kept getting worse and worse. Hope this helps save you and others some pain.
