My car has recently started making a louder and louder transmission Noise..... Weird thing is, i just changed the Oil....


I changed it because it was making noise.... it went away for about 2 days....then it seemed to have come back....??

maybe i didnt fill it all the way> .. 2qts seems to be the amount that is supposed to go in there....

also my gears seems to have a little grind when i shift to second...sometimes third........

could my syncros be going out on me..?

anybody know a transmission fluid additive that can reduce the noise? it sounds horrible...the car runs fine..but the noise is killing me...

 

Mileage on the trans?
What fluid did you use? Brand, weight, additives such as friction modifiers?

 

car has around 67k......


i replaced the FLuid not too long ago with some Lucas Transmission OIl...i could not find Redline...

i believe it was 75-90???? i could be wrong. i dont really remember....but i used 2 quarts....possibly 1.7 quarts since i poured it in before plugging the drain plug, and some leaked out...

My question pretty much is... would the transmission make this kind of noise due to there not being enough fluid inside.??/...

 

was it colder today? where do you live? have you ever started your car in the kind to temps we have right now? what kind of sound was it?

Sometimes the transmission will be a little louder until the oil heats up in the winter because its having to work harder through the thicker oil.

 

no, it car makes the noise even when its warm........Cold or warm..the noise is there......im not sure if i should drain it again,,and put in Brand new trans fluid in...with some kind of additive...?????????

 

are you even sure its a bad noise? our transmissions arent silent.

 

Check the weight and go find some Redline.
I've heard of other brands causing noise and issues(not Lucas per say), but it would be worth a shot. Let us know if that works for you.

hello i recently got my rx8 at 108k miles i know thats high miles for a RX-8 but i really liked the car. i have stated to have some problems when i stop at a stop sign or light. i put the car into drive then when i stop at a stop sign sometimes the car just doesn't move like the car revs up to like 1k-3k rpms but the car doesn't move then it unlocks and takes off like if i was trying to peel out and it worries me can anyone help with what it could be or whats the problem by the way i have a 2004 RX-8

 

Buy redline mt-90 online. If your shifter boot has any tears in it you may hear some tranny chatter but its normal

 

Hey guys I have had this problem for about a few months now and it is driving me crazy. If someone could help me out with this noise I am pretty sure it is from the transmission. My guess is that it could be the throw out bearing going bad and needing replacement. Others tell me that it could be the clutch pedal is bad and needs to be reinforced.

Take a look at this video. It is quiet in the video but in real life you can hear it with the windows open or closed and you can hear it outside of the car too.

The noise is at the last second about 4 seconds into the video.

Any help would be appreciated as I want to fix the problem asap.
