160 miles

160 miles is what I get to a tank in town driving. 2007 MT with 35k miles. I just got the car a couple months ago. Looking at the service records, the spark plugs were replaced at 33k miles.

I have tried short shifting at 3k rpm, checked tire pressure, fluid levels, chevron gas, shell gas, etc and I still only manage 160 miles to a tank no matter what I do.

Do I have to take it to a stealership? Is there anything else I can check? I do know about the BHR ignition and would love to get it, I just dont have $600 floating around (I just bought a car, you know?)

Any other advice?

Try replacing the coils and wires. The coils are available (by special order) at major auto parts stores or at their online store.
160-170 is what I got for the longest time for local driving.

Are you getting like 10 mpg? Most people get 15 - 18. Try replacing the gas cap, only like $30. I think mine went up after I replaced it, but it was throwing a check engine light code at around 55K miles.

I forgot about that, but my cap wouldn't lock so got it replaced, 18bucks shipped.

I was getting just as bad if not worse then I cleaned my ssv. Now I get about 16 city. That's one of the worst cases though. That should be last on the list since its a pita.

You got 160 until you replaced the coils? What did you get after that? 160 per tank is about 12 mpg. I know it gets bad mileage but 11-12 has to mean there is something wrong

Wow! I don't feel so bad now. If I drive mine like a sane person I get 22MPG around town and almost 30 on the road with 50K miles on it. I'm tuned in to stage 1 with the Accessport. Mine just overheats like hell but I'll work on that next week

That's why i don't drive it to much around here, just going to work and back home. I usually drive the Mazda 6i for local driving and long distances driving (still locally, lol).

Your car overheats? You might want to fix that soon. You don't want to break a coolant seal and leak coolant into the rotary housing. I do see you have the accessport so you can monitor overheating a lot closer than most so I hope you just are exaggerating. Because if youre going by the stock gauge and that is not good. That gauge is terrible and I would hate to know how hot your engine would actually have to be in order for that gauge to tell you.

you are either terrible with math or you might want to check under your hood to see if you have rotary engine in your car

I don't know if this is the case here, but the auto trans models get better mileage.

Those are the EPA test ratings for comparative purposes. It doesn't mean you can't get better or worse, depending on maintenance, mechanical condition, driving environment, driving style, equipment, etc.

That said, if my '09 sport a/t started averaging anything less than 22 mpg / 300 miles per tank in my usual commuting, I would start looking for what's wrong...
