You really need to learn how to drive stick. What dannobre said...don't do it! Change gear when you reach 5 mph or less, that is the safe way to do it, not double clutching it like you should, lol.

You have no need to down shift to first at any speeds above 10 mph really. The only time I down shift to first while still moving is going up a parking garage ramp but even then its not always needed just depends how steep the ramp is.

WTF does double clutching have to do with anything ?

The only way to get into 1st at 8+ mph is to double clutch. I have made a habit to double clutch every downshift, because it does not use the synchros and it is easier to rev match. Yes I have began to double clutch heal toes also.

I don't really see a need to downshift into first unless you're almost stopped... by that time, it should go right in.

Is it actually grinding or is it just doing that "whirring" noise as it locks you out of gear? If it's actually grinding, you must have been forcing it into gear which is a very bad idea. You should never be forcing it into a gear like that... the shift should be fairly smooth and easy.

I'm picturing someone starting their car and rolling out at 15mph, wow. lol Starting out is the only time I need 1st unless I get stuck behind some grandad who's afraid of anything over 5 mph. Anytime you shift and it's grinds it's bad, don't do it, move up a gear. You going to be needing some work on your car soon if you keep that up.

If your in 3rd gear you clutch in and shift to neutral then you clutch out, then clutch back in and shift to 2nd.

^ Simply as that. Also throw rev matching into that. Kicking up the RPM when in neutral

It's just the quote on the movie F & F that is stuck in my mind..."not double clutching it like you should", lol

Peace out!
