Hi all, I couldn't find any other mention of this topic, so I wanted to ask for a second opinion.

I just recently pulled a neglected Renesis from my 2004 Rx8 GT 6 Speed with around 89K miles on it, while cleaning it I noticed a lot of marks on the Front Cover Housing that look like cracks but also very well could be casting marks, I did not see anything leaking from the front cover before this, but the entire cover was CAKED in a good 1/2 cm worth of dirt mixed with oil which was concerning to say the least.

But, the "cracks" are raised slightly, and almost every "crack" I touched was sharp and occasionally caught on my finger and made it impossible to clean certain areas without ripping up a towel/paper towels. I would assume they are casting marks due to them being raised but the frequency of them in the cover is worrying. Unfortunately, I cannot take the housing off right now to check for cracks inside due to dealing with the dreaded eccentric shaft bolt removal.

Like I said I couldn't find any other threads on this, I also couldn't find a detailed enough picture of the front housing to determine if all Rx8's came like this. If there is another thread on this topic please let me know.

Those are casting marks. My front cover looked the same way and also my front cover on my FC looked just like that as well.

That's good to hear, I'll still double check on the inside of the housing to make sure there aren't any cracks/marks that look worrying. Thank you!
