Abs light + skid light!

HI,

I have this small issue with my 04 MT rx8 . Whenever I start the car and press on the brake pedal I have the abs light and skid warning light open. They stay open and I dont know what exactly is the problem. I dont feel anything in the way the car drives but wanted to know what can possibly be the issue. Also, my rear break lights wont work so people dont even know Im braking. Since it happened my cruise control also wont work.

Anyways, Ill appreciate if someone can help me out here before I bring it to the stealership.

Thanks

The first thing I would do is make sure it's not just looking for your to calibrate your steering wheel. when you start the car turn your wheel all the way left then all the way to the right and see if the light goes off.

As far as brake lights check to see if you have bulbs burned out or bad switch under the pedal. Else I would take it to a local mechanic you trust. It may just be a short somewhere in the circuit and any mechanic can fix that for you.

I already tried turning the steering wheel like you said and nothing. As for the break light I just changed them 2 months ago...

Any other idea?

ABS light and brake lights out. Sounds like there's something going on with your ABS system or brake sensors. I'm not sure. You should probably go to the dealer to have them check it out. Other option is to get a OBDII CAN code reader and check to see if there are any error codes in the PCM.

Autozone could probably check for you.
