But if you're thinking about upgrading your mid-pipe, you are better off just buying a used cat from the 'RX-8 Parts For Sale/Wanted' thread and use it for e-check.

The RP Supercat should pass e-check, but I've heard that it only last a few years.
Then people end up gutting it.

I'm sure some people have had better luck, but I've also read that some only last a few years for others.
Honestly I say wait for a few months because a couple promising mid-pipes might be coming out soon.
Look out for the Racing Beat and the BHR mid-pipes.

I have no first-hand experience with high-flow cats, but the RP does seem to be a popular choice.

The most common thing to do is to remove your midpipe and reinstall a cat when you go for your echeck. As for supercats...there are 2 that come to mind right away but I am sure there are more. You have the Racing Beat and Exotic Speed supercats. All the cost of the midpipe without the power increase.

RP Supercat - $395
Exotic Speed Midpipe w/ cat - $400
Agency Power Midpipe w/o cat - $300

okay well im looking on that other forum here and there saying that the RP supercat is a good choice. just the first ones that went out had heat shield problems. i think im gonna look into those cuz im liking what im hearing about them. idk i just think its gonna be a pain to have to put my cat back on everytime i want an e-check done.

oh ok. well whats the power difference between a supercat and just a midpipe? i didnt think either gave any substantial increase. and i heard theres a bad exhaust smell that comes with having a midpipe

Power increase is disputed but should be like +10whp or so. It will give you a gas smell that can be somewhat fixed with tuning and it will throw a CEL which can be removed with the same tune.

No it should not because it has a CAT. If you get a midpipe with no CAT, it will more than likely throw a CEL.

It is supposedly designed to not throw the CEL...but I have heard of it happening. *shrug*

RB is making a midpipe, not supercat.

The cat would probably consume the flames just like stock and then melt just like stock.

I believe Steve was going to save his cat... but it won't hurt to ask.

Its actually 5 bolts.
3 in front and 2 in back.
Not a pain unless your bolts are rusted (like Steve's car EVERYTIME we remove his mid-pipe )

go to your dealership and get a FREE oem cat. Put your stock intake back on so the idiots at the dealership don't get confused and ask them to look at the cat. I had a very similar issue, you don't notice the power loss in lower gears but it's much more apparent in taller gears. What had happened in my cat is that all of the screens had become pushed together (heading towards the exit) and clogged up. I ended up needing new coils and plugs too.
