What had happened in my cat is that all of the screens had become pushed together (heading towards the exit) and clogged up. I ended up needing new coils and plugs too.
okay thanks man. well i think im gonna start going to a different dealership since ive had way too many problems to even count at Montrose mazda. but about the OEM cat i think that im gonna use this as an excuse to just get a high flow cat or just go catless. just debating on wether going catless is gonna be a pain when e-check time comes around

i recommend going catless, getting some ls2(i believe it is ls2) MSD coils, and doing a Cobb AP; you get more power and higher fuel mileage. You still need to be able to pass emissions though, and I'm pretty sure you wouldn't pass emissions with the clogged cat on your car. You're going to need a working cat at some point. If you get the high flow cat, you won't make half as much power as you would with a midpipe and its possible the high flow cat will die prematurely especially if you aren't running obnoxiously rich, power restricting cat-friendly AFRs.

....plus midpipes are slightly lighter and neutrally positioned

yeah i did decide to go catless but whats an ls2? and i will be looking for an AP as soon as i get the mid pipe put onto my car. im sure i can survive with a CEL but after i sell a few things around the house ill have some cash to put into these things.
