Advanced Keyless Problem
Hey guys,
Recently purchased an 06 with about 50k miles, about 2 weeks ago. Everything is great mechanically, but I'm having issues with the keyless stuff. I have the credit card smart key.
According to the owners manual, I should be able to be within a couple feet of the trunk and press the 'trunk request' button to open it. This works.
I should also be able to approach the drivers door and press the unlock request button to unlock the doors. This doesn't work. What also doesn't work is the keyless ignition. I get in the car, buckle up, brake, clutch, try to turn ignition, but it is locked and doesn't turn. I hear two beeps and a red KEY flashes on the dash.
I've changed the battery in my remote, it works from at least 50ft away so I don't think that's the issue. I've read a couple threads that say there is a sensor under the rear bumper which can get dirty, and cause ignition to not work, but judging by the owners manual it looks like that sensor should play no role in the ignition. I've attached a couple pictures for reference.
Any wisdom is much appreciated.

I came across the same thread, RX8Soldier. I actually posted that I thought I was experiencing the same thing.
I only started to think differently because most of those users report a failing FOB as well. Also, the manual seems to only show 3 sensors that are required for ignition, not including the rear bumper sensor.
I haven't had time to take the rear bumper off and examine the sensor there yet, so it is still a possibility.
