AEM intake problem.
i recently switched from a k&n typhoon to an aem intake.. and it seems like im getting less horsepower. before when the typhoon was installed, when i floored it, it revved to 10 smoothly, since i installed the aem intake it makes a strange noise (rumbling) on the way up to 10 and seems to have less horsepower. i cant figure out the problem.. am i getting too much air? (4000ft). or not enough? please someone help me out before i damage my car.

Make sure the 2 mesh seals inside the tube are not twisted up in there...Check the filter to make sure its all clear. Clean the MAF with MAF cleaner from a local auto store. Then retest. I had major problems with my AEM, ended up just going back to stock.

No, you just made it worse.
The screens are there for a reason, they need to 'straighten' out the air before reaching the MAF sensor and by taking them out, you will run into rough idle situations.
Also, you think you made more power with the K&N as opposed to the AEM just by driving?
That's rather impossible to measure seeing as how neither of those intakes will likely give you more then 5 or 10 hp.
The K&N is quite loud, maybe louder then the AEM but noise does not equal HP.
You can't possibly get too much air into a Naturally Aspirated RX-8, it's virtually impossible.
