another sputtering prob..

Ok I just bought a 04 6sp GT...with 50 grand on it. I know jack about the rx8, but wanted something different and have learned alot lately....BUT....I'm having this problem of a loss of power around 6 to 8 grand when I take off in first. I don't exactly let my car warm up that much before I go to work in the morning and I've read on here that thats a pretty important thing to do, but do you guys....and gals think thats whats causing the sputtering? It doesn't last all day...just at the first couple stoplights. It had the Mazdaspeed exhaust already on it when I bought it, but I do you really need to warm it up all the way even when it's not cold outside? It's not like I just hop in it and go...I warm it up a little bit but I thought maybe it had something to do with the exhaust....bottom line is I have no clue and I wanted to check on here before I take it to mazda to pull a code... Thanks

Oh...and I've done the search thing...and nothing really helped me there so no flaming on the search thing....

how many miles, Year, mods???

does it have a aftermarket intake system?
ths could be caused by bad spark plugs, bad coils, bad wires, maf screens ( if you have aftermarket intake system)
oil in the MAF (clean the MAF)
carbon in the motor (seafoam)
bad cat
clogged fuel njector or bad fuel pump.

^ What he said.

The best way to warm up a car is to drive. Just keep it below 3,000 RPMs until the engine is at peak.

read the owners manual.

if you try to rev or accelerate to hard before the car is warm the ecu will go into a limp mode..

First thing you do when you buy a used car is to give it a tune up.

Unless you know it has been done.

If bought from dealer, still need to verify.

Check the color of the oil, the air filter and remove a plug.

Dealers will say they tuned it, butt... they lie!

alright well I'll check it out. Yeah dealers do lie... Now it's doing something different and in addition to the sputtering. I was in second gear and it wouldn't go past 7500rpms....then it chocked and bogged down a bit. After that the check engine light came on. Geez...I just got this damn thing. I don't think it's anything super serious. Slower acceleration since then and that was just a couple days ago. It has 50 grand on it for who ever asked about the mileage.

^check air filter and it also sounds like it's time to change coils and plugs...also what grade of gas are u using?....but def check airfilter if it sounds like it can't breathe good chance it may be clogged...but still would ot hurt to change plugs and coils at 50k miles

I am located in South Dakota.... yeah not to many rx8s up here. I checked the air filter and it didn't seem half bad so anyway I made an apt for it. I"ll get to the bottom of it. I don't think it's anything serious. Maybe the coils...who knows. Yeah I like that cup holder too...

hey not trying to hijack or anything but i didnt wanna start a new thread.

i let my car warm up for a couple of minutes, then i dont go over 3k until engine is fully warmed up.

my car has 53000 miles on it aem intake, and aftermarket exhaust. For a while now i have noticed that the car makes a really bad pitch/tone in the exhaust after i go over 4 or 5k it sounds rattley and very honda if may say so.

do people have this problem with clogged cats? i really dont know what else it could be. but its becoming more frequent and lasts longer. it used to just happen for like 5 minutes but now its my whole ride to work or w/e.

one thing i have thought about was maybe that my cat was clogged and i should just get a mid pipe. (if that could be the problem)
