Any other RX8's start liek this when really warm ? Video

2004
6speed
135,000km
always maintained
Recent work includes
Coils , spark plugs , wires , air filter , oil change , tranny oil change . Im thinking MAF clean ? but would the MAF really have that much to do with it ? took off cat and it seems fine. Also seems to still have a bit of a rough idle at times still .

That's what I'm thinking , better to rebuild or replace ? Read all the engine swap threads and seems easy enough , only problem is I'm building a 22r on propane for my crawler and its takin up all the space lol .

I'd say a reman is good. You'd have to get new gaskets, seals and I'd recommend getting new housings as well.
However, there are some people on this forum selling there engines due to being involved in accidents...

Reset computer with the brake petal press. I think it is something like turn car on, not start, hit brake petal 20 times as fast as you can, then one of the gauges will move. Search for sure. Clean the MAF first. Really easy. Do often. Check the $100 thread in my signature for other easy stuff. MAF is a big deal though. You changed the entire ignition, so an ECU reset is in order.

Here is the reset procedure, complete with pretty avatar. https://www.rx8club.com/showpost.php...32&postcount=3

For the start, I am not sure my dash lights dim that much. Think battery. Your starter is hot, the battery is hot, you are just barely starting. When the engine starts, alternator is going "oh ****" battery is dead, and trying to charge it. That load can be pretty severe. I would clean battery connections, then get battery tested before I changed the engine. Lots cheaper.

Good luck

Do you realise how hot the coolat has to be for the guage to be in that posn. ?
So unless your gauge is wrong the reason for your odd starting is that your engine is getting too hot .

Ok so I took out the MAF and cleaned it and it was really dirty , dosnt look like its ever been cleaned , so I sprayed the **** outa it with brake cleaner .

Then I did both resets , the 20 brake pump until the oil temp moved . Then I did the other one and got it to say "test" and did it twice like instructed but it didnt reset my clock ? It idles ALOT better now and still kinda stumbles a bit when I start it up . Todays video was after about a 20 mins drive and hit redline twice , Yesterdays video was after an hour of highway driving HARD .
