Bad power loss

I have read through the threads and can't get the answer I am looking for.

Over the last month I been having a wierd issue with power loss. I will leave work with the AC on and drive like 15 miles when the temp is over 85 on the free way doing 70-75. When I stop to turn off the car feels like it is in 2nd gear. When I can reach 65 the car will not hold that speed unless I am in 4 or 5 gear. The car has no power and revs very slow. It also happens on long road trips to. Took to dealer and of course no problem found. There has been one check engine light and was told it was the gas cap. I beleave the car is going into safe mode. I can turn the car off then back on and problem is still there. The fan will run for like 30min after the car is turned off telling me it is very warm under the hood. I can only think of a couple of things going on:

CAT
Fuel pump
Coils/plugs

This is only a heat related issue car runs fine as long as the temp is below 85.

Any suggestions.

I had the same thing happen to me. It was like at 65 you just hit a wall and 6th gear would make you go slower. I had me coils replaced and it fixed mine. alot of other people had to replace the CAT.

what dealer are you using in the denver area. The dealer in cheyenne and fort collins are horrable. But don't think it is the engine problem but a heat related problem.

I think it's a combination of Mazda not knowing how to fix the issue, as well as understanding that the pinging I experianced during power loss probably tore the internals of the engine up.

I've been going to McDonald Mazda in Littleton.

I had a bunch of service problems initially with them, but after working with District Mazda rep, and talking with the manager over there they've been really great lately.

In fact they got a new service writer who I had never met, and when I showed up he greeted me by name.

I know it's a drive, especially considering that your car has a problem driving long distances, but I would definitely call over and talk to them and see if you can get it down.

I can tell you that in Denver, Burt and Gateway Mazda are both absolutely terrible when it comes to service. Burt actually charged me to diagnose my car because they said they couldn't duplicate the issue, and Gateway put a dent in my 2 week old car when I first bought it.
You got to be kidding me. I would not pay for that. I'm going heads up right now with the service manager from my dealer. I took my car in to have the motors replaced. Well my car was sitting there the mazda guys re-flashed my 8 with a prototype flash. When I picked up my car a week later it stalled on me. The dealer is debating on if they should pay for my rental. After all the car was dead well waiting to get picked up.

Just pull off the coils yourself. It's easy to do. then look at the bottom of them to see if they are burnt.

do you have an after makret intake???
i had very similar problems with mine and i too it in. after a day of testing they told me that the loss of power was due to my intake leaning out the car too much and breaking down the cat, thus restricting flow out of the exhaust.

if you DO have an intake on there, i would definatley look into that.

I have the exact same problem. 99% of the time it doesn't cause a big problem, but once last summer I could hardly accelerate from a stop, and another time it stalled while going ~40. I had to wait five minutes before it would start again. Mazda found no problem, of course. It was only on warm to hot days, and I have no aftermarket parts at all. This is an '04 manual transmission. It started to happen last summer, but did not occur at all over the winter (Buffalo, NY). Now I can feel some power loss after 35+ mins of driving. I plan on doing a solid hour of driving then bringing it right to the dealer to see if they can locate the problem. It does seem to be heat related, as the car still pulls strong in cooler weather. I really just want to get this sorted out before the warranty is up. BTW, I only have about 25K miles now. It sucks, because I'm scared to go on any road trips and being left stranded somewhere.
