is this bad a window motor or something else?

hi guys
i have searched the forums but didn't find much information, i want to be sure the motor is the problem before i buy a new one to replace it.
the window has been getting stuck around midway trying to move it up or down, it makes a loud grinding sound when it gets stuck. i would have to push up or pull down to get it to go fully up or down.
i removed the door panel today and while checking it out, the gear of the motor looks fine, it spins, though it stops here and there instead of moving smoothly. after putting it all back together now the window goes down all the way just fine, but i have to pull and slightly rock it back and forth while going up with the switch to get it back up.

how would i know if this was a regulator problem instead of a motor problem?

thanks for any help

Sounds like it could be the regulator; try adjusting the track first.

unbolt the motor assembly from the regulator and try to pull on the window up and down. should move freely without the motor attached. if it stills binds with the motor disconnected its somewhere inside the regulator.

got a new motor on ebay for $10(!!!!!!!!!)
works great.
only problem now is there seems to be an extra connector when i put it all back together. the piece with the control for the windows has 2 connectors and theres a smaller connector with holes for just 2 pins and im not sure what its for. everything works without this connected so i can only guess its for a feature my car doesnt have, like heated mirrors?
