As you guys know I've been having some misfire issues. Well today I had to drive it for about 30 mins straight city driving, well I decided to go and open it up alittle because I don't get to do that too often, well, I ran it to about 125 mph and really dark gray almost black smoke started to pure out of my vents and alittle from my hood. It smelled of really bad burning...The smoke went away after about 30 secs and never came back.

Before this had happend, I ran it to about 120mph and as I was slowing down around 100 mph I heard a pop, just a single "pop" Not exhaust backfire. This was something else.

The car still seemed to run how it has been running. I just checked my oil and it was perfect, the coolant was perfect, and I had no leaks..

I wonder If that smoke was caused by a clogging cat...The cat has been fine sense I've had the car, but I'm think sense I've been having horrible misfires I might have trashed it.

What do you guys think the black smoke was? hmmmm????

 

Cat sounds like a good guess. Especially if you have been misfiring a lot... Are you noticing anything unusual coming out of your exhaust? I would think that if your cat is trashed enough to be having a ton of smoke billowing out you would have some other symptoms too... Think there could possibly be a leak between your gas and your oil? Did the oil smell at all like gas when you checked it?

 

No gas smell at all. No smoke comes out my exhaust either. Only time it's ever done that.

 

I really need to somehow find the time to clean my maf, and I need to take the UIM off and clean every valve...I was just reading Jon's thread on how to clean the SSV and I'm starting to believe thats whats causing my hesitations/misfires under loads. I need to check and clean my TPS also.
