Brake Light On Help
Hi, I have a 04' auto with 50 000 kms (30 000 miles) and noticed that the hand brake light is constantly on even though I put the hand brake all the way down. I did a search on this forum and ppl are saying the maybe the brake fluid is low or i may need new pads. So I brought it in to the dealership and they are saying that the pads are down to 10% and also the brake rotors need to be replaced and they are estimating to charge me 1300$ US. Does this sound right? If I just need new brake pads I don't think I should be charged that much. Btw I also baby my car and never push it hard. Thanks

Sounds like you still just need a little brake fluid!
"They" will always tell you the rotors are gone, even when it just needs pads.
Bypass the dealer - get some excellent Hawk pads (around $120) and some aftermarket rotors (maybe $200 a pair) and stock new pads in rear. Not hard to install, just an afternoon of wrenching.

If your rotors have never been turned, it is unlikely that you need new ones. Have them turned at a brake shop and see if they are still in spec. I believe the spec is stamped into the rotors, but if not, get back here and someone will get the specs for you from the shop manual.
