Okay - car's there now. Spoke with Wayne; told him the symptoms. He said "No problem, we'll yank the cat and go for a drive...see if that fixes it."
Brilliant. Had the first place carried such an attitude, the car would have been fixed by now.

Lmao - GET THIS..
The guy has had my car for fewer than 4 hours.
Pulled the cat - PIECES fell out. He drove around w/o the cat for awhile - PLENTY of power. he's going to Next-Day-Air a cat to me...AND get me that starter and new battery for the hard-start issues I'd been having....issues the OTHER dealer would NOT fix because I notched out a piece of my battery cover to run a power wire. The OTHER dealer said that little notch is causing the hard-start issues and therefore won't be covered.
wow....It's SO refreshing to NOT have to BEG a dealership to work on a car.
(sigh).
Nemesis8 - YOU the man.

Just for reference, who was the good dealer and who was the bad dealer?
That would be useful info for other NW owners. Don't be selfish and keep a great tech all to yourself!
As well as keeping us from wasting our time with a clueless dealer.

Charlie: Still going thru drafts; I figure i'm at about a 90% solution - but want to know I've articulated things the right way.

I bought the car at Milam Auto, in Puyallup. Here's the first and last paragraphs of my letter, which sums things up:

Bottom line up front:
Your staff in the Service Department has been very cooperative, professional, and courteous when I’ve taken my car in for “little things” such as having rattles fixed, and oil changes. When “big things” happen, I’ve been put on an emotional roller-coaster of “We won’t cover your car under warranty” then relenting after much angst and frustration on my part; “Okay, we’ll do you a favor and honor the warranty [which was included in the $28,500 you spent here].” This past week, your Service Department failed me in a most outrageous way.
Yadda, Yadda, Yadda...
As when shopping for a car, I don’t expect special treatment. I expect a Service Department to look at problems with a car objectively. I expect a Service Department to give me credit for having at least basic knowledge of how the systems in a car work together. I expect a Service Department to have at least the level of information I can find doing a 20-minute search of the internet. I am only after a fair deal.

if it was me, I'd be sure to throw in a line about how since the service department was uncooperative in trying to resolve the problem, and threatened to void your warranty illegally. and as such you were forced to take your car to another dealership to have the problem resolved (in less than 4 hours of having the car too).
Good service on the small issues is nice, but how a customer is treated on the big issues is far more important. Its apparent that the customer isn't a priority, and now you'll be taking your business elsewhere and recommending to others that they do the same.

You're exactly right on, and I might post the entire letter just to show how you and I are thinking very closely alike.

YUP Cat's OK...not the problem.......MUST be your aftermarket intake or Exaust
Or maybe the mods to your electrical system.........
Thank God for this Forum and the internet....or else we would be at the mercy of idiots.
At least we can get some like minded individuals in our RX-8 "cult" to seperate the idiot dealerships from the great ones
MAZDA...pay attention....were mad as hell....and NOT going to put up with it any more!
