What's a "bix" ?
Filter is fine - its a K&N so is stronger than paper element.
bix=box, I just type like **** sometimes! No worries! Sorry about that.
Jeez, it pretty much had to come from the other direction then didn't it.

Just reporting back on this .

I have been running with both screens out since Team suggested it & I've noticed a couple of things .
1/Car runs perfectly - no issues whatsoever .
2/After disconecting the battery it always used to take some time for the ECU to find the right settings for idle - ususally 3-4 starts . Now I'm not positive that this is related but I've disconnected the battery several time recently & the engine seems to idle perfectly from the first start .

Odd

Does anyone know where I can get some replacement mesh intake screens? I'm trying to avoid calling the stealership, everytime I call them they have no idea what I'm talking about.

Try Home Depot or Lowes. Use the nylon screen door material that way if a small speck make it into the combustion area it will just burn up and not injure anything. Your sure what your mods are so be inventive on how to mount the screen. This is a MM suggestion that works very well.

I could try that, I'm just lazy. I wanted to have a couple laying around just in case I need a replacement. The one I have in my Revi is fine....for now.

Sorry to bump such an old thread, but I'm glad I searched before creating one of my own.

To preface these pictures:
I just cleaned my REVi [no duct] after 15,000 miles today.
It has not been apart since installation.
Filter looks immaculate [but black] and there are no tears.
I've had one mesh screen in for the duration.
It was not damaged in installation or removal.
The horn/velocity stack looking part of blue aluminum that sits inside the intake was free from its rubber and could roll around freely inside the filter...I'm not sure it could strike the filter, logistically speaking, but this is the only plausible explanation I can come up with as to how this happened:

I do about 5 DE's a year. I get 10-11 mpg because I drive aggressively everywhere and my avg. trip is only 1 or 2 miles.

I'm now running without screens [my spare is in Houston, and I am in Dallas till March], and my Idle is fine so far. No stalling. Surprisingly when engine braking the deceleration is much smoother than it was before, but since I just cleaned the filter for the first time, that might have something to do with it...

Thoughts? I almost shat myself when I saw that it was hanging on by 4 little wires of mesh...

I've been running without the screens through drastically swinging weather conditions, and the car is handling it beautifully.

We went from 40* to 80* to 40* to 30* back up to 75* in the last couple of days. PCM isn't having a problem and my idle is pretty steady, as measured w/ my OBDScan-APEX.

Time to revive this thread once again! I have noticed this happening in the same manner as Brettus' picture in the original thread on my car, except it's on the inner screen behind the MAF sensor. The tear is about 1/4 - 1/3 of the circumference along the bottom side. I have not taken it out yet, rather saw it by looking down the tube.

This has me considerably worried since anything that flakes off of this screen could potentially go where it could cause harm. This along with the fact that one of the mounting screws for my MAF sensor is stripped leads me to think it's upgrade time. AEM CAI, anyone?

I took apart my intake to get to my coils and my mesh on the racing beat intake was broken. I found my stock intake and am having trouble taking out the second mesh to put into my intake.

I've been searching throughout the forums.
Anyone have any tips on how to get it out or to get a new mesh screen?
Thanks.
