A/C stopped working, what and where do I need to check?

The other day as I was driving I heard this loud pop on the right side of my RX8 as if I ran over something, I quickly pulled over and did a quick inspection of my car but I couldn't find anything damaged nor did I see anything in the road. I kept driving and everything seemed fine. Then a few days later I go to use my A/C and nothing happened. My A/C light comes on but there is no change in the air temp nor do I hear the car engage the compressor. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I need to check?
Thanks!

I am not sure, I didn't/don't hear any squealing before or after the loud bang. But I haven't had a chance to look at much of anything yet. Where is the ac compressor belt located on these cars? Oh and she's an 04 btw.

Ok I will have to check when I get off work. Is it easy to see from just under the hood without having to take apart anything? And I don't remember seeing anything laying in the road where I heard the noise.

Ok I managed to go out and look at it, my belt is still there and is turning. But when I turn the ac on nothing happens. And also when I push my clutch in I am hearing this sound as if someone is screaming, but it's sort of quite... I don't know how else to describe it...

Your likely going to have to take it in to have it repaired. You have to be licensed to repair AC systems. If that noise came from the AC system, you could have blown a hose, condenser or something else on the hi pressure side of the compressor. An AC tech can insert dyes in the line to find that leak. The condenser sits in a area vulnerable to stone damage, low in front of the radiator. It could be that, but you never know.
The noise you heard could just have been a coincidence and something else could be bad.

Sounds like the system is out of freon. Best left to a A/C expert if you are not up to that task.
