Cant play "home made" CDs help
I tried to search for this, and I am NOT very informed about formats, etc. of copied music. I just know that I can make my own CDs at home with my computer, and they work in my other cars. They will not play in the RX, though.
any help would be VERY much appreciated.

That's a great question. I am using Windows Media player to generate them. WAV files maybe then? Again, I WANT to learn all the ins and outs of this, but right now am very much a newbie with computer/digital/audio interface

I don't think that Media Player will burn mp3 files, only wav. Most of my CDs are burned using Media player or windows XP so more than likely it is the CDs that you are using. I use CD-R if that helps, not CD-RW.

Use Nero, it's "Free"... and then use Fuji CD-Rs made from Japan (Burn proof, never fails).. or other "Taiyo Yuden" type of CDs/DVDs. The program will make the cd play in anything.

strange
ok, looks like my thread got moved??? doesn't it fit with electronics? Anyway, when I put my disk in, it tried to cue up the first song. I skipped to the second, and it played. I skipped back to the first, and it played. It just doesn't seem to want to read the first track very well. sometimes it does, mostly not.

Listen to this one: went to the dealer for the first oil change. the guy comes back with my car and sez: Hey I just wanted to warn you that you can't play "home made" CD's in you RX-8!!
"What....and why not"?
They will VOID the warranty, the service mgr. has already told several RX-8 owners the had to pay for repairs due to these CD's getting stuck in the player.
Has anyone else heard such BS

I agree with jowettw. Try to burn at slower speeds <8x and try different kinds of CD-Rs.

I have no problems playing home made CD's in my 8.
Use CD-R's as suggested (not CD-RW) and make sure you are
burning in Audio CD format.
Also, as suggested, download nero (free demo version)
and pick 'Make an Audio CD'.
It will convert anything you select (mp3, .wma etc) to the correct format.
PM me if you can't get it to work.

My fellow Rx-8 Owners, I too Encounter this Same problem with My 2004 Rx-8. I too Felt dumbfound by it. 2weeks ago I had my ECU Reflashed. The Mazda dealership Told me it need to be updated. Ok I went with it. Got my ECU Reflashed and something in me told me try Burnt Cds they May work now I said to myself. and once again they did not. But I'm someone who doesn't give up that easily,so yesterday I try this old memorex CDRW disk that I burnt years ago for my 99 Eclipse and Shockingly It Played. I couldn't believe it The Burnt CDRW Play in the Rx-8, so I took the CDRW home and deleted the Cd and Reburn it on my Mac on Itunes and it play once again in the Rx-8. the only Thing that I can up with on why it plays this CDRW disk is because this CDRW disk burns only on 4x speed. so I figured let me burn a Sony CD-R at 4x and it did not work. This week I'm going to buy More CDRW with different Burn Speeds to see if that solution to this but For now My Fellow Rx-8 Owners Try using a CDRW that only Burns on 4X and you'll have your home made cd in your car. Please let me know if anyone else has experience something like this...and I guess everyone is wondering what Type of Rx-8 I have: 2004 Sunlight Silver Rx-8 with The Full Aero & Accent package, 6 speeds DVD/NAV and it Came with the RED/BLack Interior with the BOSE Sound System

^^so... you got a CD-RW disk to work in your car, but NOT a CD-R? Thats difficult to believe (if the player is stock).
The difference between a CD-RW and CD-R has nothing to do with recording speed, but the material of the dye
CD-R writes data to a disc by using its laser to physically burn pits into the organic dye
On a CD-RW the dye material basically shrinks, leaving a pit where the laser dot was written, resulting in a recognizable CD surface.
As long as you have the burning software set to burn audio CDs... NOT MP3 CDs... you should be alright.

There are other options Like the Ipod Hookup or if you have the cash buy the MP3 Stock unit from mazda that plays MP3 CDs and Burn cds with that option atleast you can start using your Cd-r again.Don't try the FM transmitter those things are horrible.
