car dies at idle once warm
over the lastfew days my 8 has started dying at idle once the engine warms up. when you first start it the idle is pretty smooth (at least it as now that i cleaned my maf sensor), but once you press in the gas and then release the pedal it drops to idle then dies. the engine was replaced under warranty less than six months ago. Mine is a 2004 6sp mt. any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance guys!

One other thing... Ive heard cleaning th throttle body can help. I tried to do that tonight too, but i guess we have to completely remove the throttle to open it? It was already dark so i gave up on it.

Im having the same problem..with my 04.. i changed the coils and started it back up and now this is happening..after it is warm it will not hold idle it will die .if i cold start it it will run for a good 5 min but idle slowly dips down and eventually dies out .i hope i found the culprit though a dry rotted hose the bottom of the intake the bottom of the three one broke off while i was changing coils..created a vaccum leak same code that yours threw..i have to get a new 90 elbow for the air intake bottom because it broke off in their... suppose to pick it up tomorrow from the dealer.. no thread jacking just thought i would advise you to check all the hoses on the intake will create major problem ..

Only had the car six months so i cant say how many miles on plugs and coils. safe to say they need replaced regardless so i will order new ones from a forum vendor tomorrow

you know this actually sounds like the hot start problem which i think i am having, but when i changed my coils and wires the one hose piece broke off as well and i used some plastic bond at work to put it back on and thought it was good, think this could be my culprit? cuz its fine when its cold but it has inconsistency of loss of power and sputtering at lights, sometimes it does it sometimes it doesn't. sometimes i have trouble starting it after almost running out of gas a few weeks ago and its worse when i'm low so its gotta be that or I'm thinking a new fuel filter is needed, any thoughts?

I've noticed a few threads with similar issues to mine have been the result of low compression. I'd hate to think that that's my issue since my engine was replaced for the same reason not all that long ago. Do you think mazda would do a compression test for free since mine was so recently replaced? Any other suggestions?

^The remanufactured engine that you have should be under a one year warranty. Check with the same dealership.
Also, have you read the "New and potential owners" thread? Tons of great info, including many issues that our cars suffer. Check it out

Cleaned out tb and air filter and reset ecu. Car is idling normal now. thanks for the reset advance rx8soldier. Pretty safe to say thats what did it. however due to my excitement of having my beloved car back i decided to cut her loose and she did ok for a while then the car died under pretty hard acceleration. Then again under mild acceleration. could this just be becuz of the reset and the car still adjusting? i know it took my 8 a little while to learn to idle again

Yes i did the 20s reset. cant find anything on our site about this, but a guy on the mazda 3 forum experiencd this problem and the mazda tech told him i ws normal after a reset and to give it a few days. i wonder if thats the same for us? Its never stalled during acceleration before

Well now the car is jerking pretty violently when accelerating, the exhuast is making a terrible noise much like youd expect on a riced out 89 civic and it smells of burning plastic. could something have blown into my exhaust when accelerating? The cars acting like something is shoved in there and preventing the flow(sounds that way too) when i got my engine replaced fragments of a previous failed cat shot into my muffler. Is it possible that fragments were still in there? Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Ok, let's start back from square 1
1. unplug your battery for 5 min, depress brake to drain completely, reconnect.
2. clean your eccentric shaft position sensor, the do the 20 brake pedal reset.
If you can, pull down the front of your cat to see if there is any damage/clogging. Or, go for a hard drive and see if it glows near the O2 sensor. May be difficult to see during the day time...

Is there a diy on cleaning the e shaft sensor? I cant find one. Reset the ecu again. Didnt make much difference. Right now theres barely any air coming out of my exhaust. you obviously know much more about these cars than i do but it just feels like the problem is a clogging of the exhaust, i dont know how that relates to the other problem but thats the feel the car is giving me. dont have a good way to check the cat for clogging either. I guess i need to take it to an exhaust place, if nothing else just to rule it out. They cant take me in until monday tho. I dont have access to a lift obviously but i do have a two ton jack. Im willing to try pretty much anything to try and get this thing working for monday

ess cleaning link
If you have access to a jack AND jack stands (don't get under your car, under ANY circumstances, without them), and if you have a basic ratchet set, you can pull down the front of the cat and flash a light down to inspect. You will know if there is damage or not...
It does sound like it's related to exhaust. I'm just ruling out other options, also

Ended up selling my 8 this weeked. Changed the plugs, coils, wires and had the carbon cleaning treatment done (cost me $1200 at the dealer), then when I got home it hit me the car still has a lot of problems. Can't accelerate past 6k rpm, exhaust rattle is back, still desperately needs a new clutch and zero power when accelerating. I most have bought a terribly maintained one becuz that thing was in the shop non stop and I just couldn't afford its weekly repairs anymore.
Anyway, just wanted to say thanks to you guys. you've been a huge help while I had my rx8. Good luck with your cars. They're amazing if you have a good one.
