Car slow to turn over after starting and the stop and go

Looking for some help - new to the club and I wish I had joined long ago - I have a 2005 rx8 and just spent $1,000 on new engine coils, spark plugs and a crank sensor (which were the main items) and now when I first start the car it turns over ok but then if I stop for an errand and back to start the car it's very slow to start up again. If its the starter why didn't the mechanic tell me that last week when the car was there? I have 95,000 miles on the car and out of warranty. Questioning what I should do. Thanks for your help!

any mods?
Why do you say you are outside of warranty?

mods= modifications

Is the starter slow to turn the engine over, or does the engine turn over quickly but doesn't fire as quickly as when cold ?

Get a compression check asap. I had the same problems over the last two weeks, and thought it was the same problem you were describing. My compression check failed...

Everyone is so helpful so thank you! The car is slow to turn over but once it does it fires up fine. A compression check? If it fails what does that mean in terms of repairs? Expensive? Appreciate any help as I try to avoid the dealers since thh are so expensive and prefer the local mechanic as long as I am educated about be problem.

Zoom, as Roket suggested, get a compression test done, also, how old is the battery ,I would have that checked at an auto electrician,the early series of 8's had a weak starter, not sure if yours falls into that category ,search the forum for more info on starters. If the motor has failed and needs replacing, your looking at around 4k-10k , depending who does it and what is done,but seeing as yours is an '05, your motor should still be under warranty .

Thanks again I will look into a compression test then. The battery was replaced last year so bar should be good. The car is not under nor covered by warranty - I didn't opt for the extended coverage. So pending the outcome for $4k it could sadly be bye bye to the zoom zoom stupid question. It where do I find an auto electrician??? Aren't car mechanics savy with this or no?

Some mechanics are able to do the test of the battery,some are just monkey's in uniform. You can do it yourself if you have a multi meter, if your in the US, I would contact Mazda North America, give them your VIN, they will tell you if it's still under warranty.Im sure its 8 years from date of sale, or 100k miles.

here is an intro thread you should read. I don't know if all of the warranty info is in here, but it's a place to start
