When did the last time you replaced the fuel pump? The fuel filter might be clogged as well. I could be wrong, but check it out anyway...good luck.

What intake you have?
Sounds more like than this, but I would clean the MAF and then clean the throttle body, but.................. I don't like the sound of what you are saying.
When it first does it when driving, is it when you are in idle......meaning driving along and does it happen when shifting to neutral like coming to a stop?

i've had mazda clean the fuel injectors and valve body, replaced the throttle body sensor, new starter .Dealer has checked cat and no engines codes come up , car seems to run out of gas ,but I always have gas , sometimes when it starts it quickly dies.Let it cool down and then it runs and could run for weeks. It seems to act up when I do short trips some start and stopping.

MAF clean above is a good idea, plugs and coils at that age as well. The computer seems pretty good a pulling the last bit of performance out of the coils, then falling off the edge. I would suggest coils first.

Click on $100 in my sig to see the stuff I did to my 04 to help it out, as well as Florida-ize it..

Where in South Florida?

The steering wheel dance got my attention. Occassionally when my 04 is Florida "cold" and I back out of the garage lowering the rpm occassionally I'll get that "dance" for a few seconds. Then it goes away. I think it's a temporary low voltage condition? Since it's electric power steering.

I have not changed my coils or wires yet at 64k. I have them in a box. So that might explain the rare delay to start after a short 3 mile drive? My car is not a daily driver. Mostly highway and autocrossed.

If I understand the fuel pump in our cars there is no fuel excess return line for cooling the pump so the pump goes on and off as needed drawing fuel from both sides of the saddle tank using a siphon on one side. Any chance you've got gunk in your tank that gets picked up on the prefilter occassionally due to sloshing? Just a wild guess.

I would have thought the Dealer would have checked the fuel pressure and volume? My fuel pump is an original 8 year old one too. Must admit the "bucking" sure sounds like fuel pump failure like my old Mustang did last year. But that's a totally different system.
