car stops in reverse gear
Hi,
I have a Mazda RX8 2004 auto. 124,000km.
When I drive in reverse gear for more than 10m, sometimes it comes to a sudden and full stop.
any idea why?
The Mazda dealer couldn't identify the problem as he couldn't reproduce it.
thanks

Could use some more details on "comes to a sudden and full stop"...
- Is it like the brakes are locking up?
- Or more like the transmission is slipping, as if in neutral?
- If you shift it back into drive, does it operate normal?
- How about if you shift it into neutral (after the "full stop")?
- And then what if you go back into reverse, then what?
- Can you reproduce it by rolling backwards (on an incline) with the trans in neutral?

- it does feel like the brakes are locking up, not like transmission is slipping
- back into drive, the car drives fine
- same in neutral
- back in reverse is ok, but full stop may happen again if going reverse over a relatively long distance (although, it doesn't happen every time, that's why Mazda couldn't reproduce the problem)
- I never tried rolling backwards in neutral, I might give it a go.
