Car won't idle

Fuel pump is dead. Kevin Landers came by and helped me check it out, and figured out there was barely any fuel being pumped into my motor. Which would explain the extreme lean reading on my AP

RX-865 - Your AFR wasn't lean from what you posted and how was the fuel pump tested?
And for your benefit...
tza - To correct your statement about drive cycles the car must go from cold to hot and back to cold again to be counted as one drive cycle. Going from cold to hot and hot to hot would still be counted as a single drive cycle. Also, your plugs will be wet before your car starts showing the flooded condition...once you get the car started your plugs will be dry as the fuel was burned off.

I thought the higher the number the leaner the mixture? I may have gotten confused in the earlier posts and put rich by mistake. I clamped two fuel lines I believe (kevin actually unhooked them) with a red clamp and blue clamp. I then cranked the car while he watched the very little amounts of fuel shoot out. Then I watched while he cranked and the fuel was in very short bursts that didn't seem to have much pressure behind them. They would barely shoot up 6 inches and he said it should shoot fuel onto my windshield. Charles said earlier, given by the symptoms, that it was my fuel pump that went bad.

When it was losing power and died it was cycling between low 17's and 20.3. That's not normal ranges. 15.3 or a low 15 is the leanest my car gets while cruising so I knew something wasn't right. But I believe earlier I said it was running rich. I got confused. Sorry for the confusion.

Again...14.7 is your target AFR so 15 is not lean. Here...try reading these two posts...

Yeah I know that 14.7 is the target and I know 15 is not lean. I was just saying I thought it was kinda odd that AP was reading than the average my car normally runs. I know since using the AP I have an overall idea of what my car is running diagnositc wise when it is perfectly fine. Just the fact that it was slightly off at first just kinda had me wondering what was up, but I shrugged it off because like you said 15 is not lean, but when it was going from 17 to 20.3 I got worried.

That is why you trusted me with your money in the first place.
The Walbro pump motors, although a pretty decent pump, have failure rates a little higher than the 1% I am willing to accept (which is an OEM-accepted rate) and MazdaManiac has discussed this for me with the Walbro guys while he was at SEMA. By comparison, the ignition coils we use in our kits have a FAR lower failure rate; we have lost 6 coils out of the total 2,000 we have shipped (.003%).
In any event, I keep spare pump motors around all the time as these things sell pretty quick.
