Car wont start Question.

Okay, so im on a a Forum when i get PM, someone is intrested in buying an RX8, but it has a problem, he says that after its been running for awhile, and you turn it off, it takes like 15 minutes for it to start up again.
He didn't give me much more then that to work with, i asked him some questions, but figured i would post that here incase someone can diagnose the possible problem from that.
He is going to post something similar soon, he is just waiting for a Mod to activate his account. i just figured I would post to see if i could get him an answer a bit quicker

okay, so this is what i've found out from him.
its an 05' with 55k miles on it.
its a 6 speed. And the car was hit on the side, so that's why the guy he is buying it off of, is selling it (he assumes).
He says the battery is fine, it cranks but wont turn over, maybe his starter?

Hey everyone... I'm the one that's buying the car. Just got my account activated.

Well I got some more information from the guy.

No CEL light... it happens every time you run the car for 5 mins or longer and it drives and runs perfectly fine besides this problem though.

In 2007 Mazda said his motor is fine. He had them check because of the major recall they had on them. (he wasn't having this problem when he had it checked).

Only thing he's done to the motor was put a k&n filter on it.

He said he might think it is spark plugs because they were never changed???

Whoa, if the car has factory plugs @ 55,000 miles then yeah I would start there. If the plugs have never been serviced them it's a fair bet the coils haven't been either. A hard starting issue after running is either an ignition situation or a problem with low compression.

If you wanted to use factory parts, coils will set up back about $125 and plugs between $70 and $85 depending on where you buy them. Both take maybe 30 minutes a piece to install and would give you immediate results.

If that doesn't solve the problem I'd HIGHLY suggest a compression test before buying the car. That will give you a snapshot of the health of the motor and whether or not you're getting a car that warrants a replacement or not.

Change the plugs!
The dealer was supposed to do this right after he bought the car originally, if I recall correctly.......mine sure did.
Anyway.....as was said.......plugs, wires, coils.......that's a good bet.

Well..... i got the car........ it ran and drove fine until my friend who followed me home in my other car told me that my muffler was red, then shortly after, 5ft flames came streaming out of both exhaust tips. I stop, put it in neutral, the car shuts off by it's self. It has no oil whatsoever. I fill it up, starts right up. It starts smoking. I figured I added a little too much oil and it was burning the excess. I drive it 30 miles until it starts flaming again, and bogging really bad. Same deal, drop it in neutral, it turns off. No oil in the engine. Oh and I came to find out it's an 04 and actually has 42k. It's on the side of the highway right now. What's my best bet? Get it towed to the nearest Mazda dealer? (and contact the seller obviously)

I had Mazda roadside assistance tow it to a Mazda dealer. They said it has too many aftermarket parts on it so it can't be covered. It has a k&n intake, that's it! Well anyways I let them diagnose it (they are still doing so) and so far they found out the air filter was completely clogged. I'm awaiting the status of the diagnosis.

tell them to check your cat too!!! if it's red possibly the cat is burning up....and if it was driven with no oil well that's not a good sign either..a compression test after that would not hurt at all...
