CEL = New engine?!?!?
I posted this under a TSB thread, but it is old and I am afraid no one will see that one, so here goes....
I just had the check engine light come on this morning and took it into Earnhardt Mazda in AZ. When I get a call from the service guy, he tells me I can pick it up because it needed a new part, I proceed to ask him that part and he tells me he has ordered a new engine?!?!?!
He said there was a service bulletin out that states a problem with coolant leaking into the engine, and that mine had shown some signs....
My questions are this:
First, was there really a TSB that stated this that came out recently?
Second, should I worry about letting them change the engine? Mine has 10k miles but this sounds too good to be true.
Lastly, are there any problems that can come up if I have them do this? Basically, I guess I am asking is what would you all do in this situation?
Thanks in advance for your post!

Damn, thats a pretty major part to order !
They are the only people I'd let change the engine, if they mess up, it's their asses. I wouldn't worry about it though.
Do you let your car warm up for a few minutes when it's cold ?
A few people on here have had the same issues and had engines replaced - try a search and keep us posted.

Wow no kiddin? You can always take it to Showcase for a 2nd opinion (14th st and Camelback). They have a rotary master mechanic there also; let them know what Earnhardt is tellin ya.
10k mi and a new engine? Par-TAY![Cool](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/cool.gif)
So Gdubdub...what part of the valley are you in and any interest in joining along for an occasional cruise or something? https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...1&page=1&pp=15
Edit: We just had a different club cruise (it was a rotary club gathering, not specifically an 8 club gathering) up north 1 1/2 weeks ago. Good times!

I'm kinda scared to take mine in now. I have 26,000 miles on mine and have had a CEL since I bought it pretty much. I take it in, they turn it off and it comes right back on. I don't have time to visit my dealership every other day (it is 30 minutes away) so I just drive with it on until I can get back there. I stopped in the other day to set up a day to bring it in and told my service manager what the problem was (again). He mentioned getting a new engine and I am NOT excited. I don't want my baby to be in the shop for that long, nor do I want to take the chance on what they can screw up trying to put a new engine in. Needless to say...I know she needs to go back in, but I am a little wary about taking her back.

Poolside,
I thought about getting a second opinion, but then again, I think I like the first one![Smilie](https://www.rx8club.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
The reason being is that I bought this car with 92 miles of test drives on it, I know for a fact that it was mistreated for every one of those miles since I know how the salesman talked to me about how to drive it...
Also, I saw another thread on here that mentioned if you go past the redline that coolant can leak into the engine, and once again, I am sure that happened during the test drives.
I live in Laveen (down Baseline in the avenues) but I am up for getting together with other RX8-ers for sure!
