CEL - Cat efficiency

Hey guys just got a CEL light the other day and went down to adv auto for them to run the codes. Dont remember the exact number but it threw a cat efficiency code. Any ideas what i should do to fix this? My airfilters a little dirty, i gotta buy a recharge kit cause its the K&N n clean it. I noticed now my exhaust seems to be quiter now i have the Exoticspeed r1-t cat back.

How many miles on the car? Stock coils? Only owner? Lots more info needed.

If your under 80,000 miles then the Cat is still under warranty. Call the dealer and have them replace it.

Can bad coils cause the cat to go belly up?

Yes, bad coils can lead to a bad CAT.
If extra fuel gets dumped into the CAT because the coils are firing as they should, it surely can and has many a time.

im surprised my cat is still alive after my severe coil issues I was looking at my B@B exhaust the other day and noticed a crack inside one of the tips. In B@Bs brochure, they claim these tips shouldnt crack. WHY DO I???

Hey sorry guys was at work, cars an 04 87k miles, so im just over the mileage :/. The car other than the exhaust and some cosmetics is stock. Buddy of mine with an rx7 says it could just be clogged n try to redline a few times to clear it out but that didnt seem to do the trick.

It's a valid suggestion.
The honeycomb in there can break up and clog the CAT. The best way to tell is to take it loose at the front, move it off to the side a little bit, look in there with a flashlight and see if the honeycomb looks okay.
Another way is to drive around awhile, then pask and see if your CAT is glowing red.

In your case, it sure sounds like it's bad, so I would either pull it off and look, or pull it completely off and go with a mid-pipe if you don't want to buy another one.

well just unhooked the the cat from the engine bay and i was experiencing some power loss but i took it for a drive down the street with the cat unhooked and got the power back so it seems like ill need a new cat. Does anyone have any suggestions on mid pipes? should i just get the exoticspeed for the r1-t exhaust im using ?

than you will need one with a resonator, do you not have emission testing where you live? If you do than you might want a hi flo CAT too. Maybe BHR midpipe w/ resonator and Davesport cat. They sell it together for additional price.

no theres emissions i live in NY, but i was under the impression that a mid pipe with a high flow cat would pass emssions and not throw a CEL

Mine was bad and I kept throwing a P0420 error. You can tell because the cat would get super hot and make the area right between my seats really hot too. My engine bay temperature got hotter than normal too after driving.

The problem is that no salesguy wants to promise that.
