CEL: Running Too Rich problem... need help
Ok well i own a 2004 6spd on 36,200 miles and the only modifications done to it is synthetic oil(which would it affect the drive?) and a custom cold air intake that leads to my rotor symbol. it was done very well. its full 3in mandrel bent and has the 2 mesh screens in also. i will post pics up of it in the am to give a full view of it. I havent done my spark plugs yet and would that make it run rich? i doubt it but im not too familiar with the rotory and just know some things on it. Any idea why its running rich other than the intake. it ran very well for about a day also. need the help. oh ya...it doesnt stall out or anything either like other people who have that problem thanks!

1. If the airflow over the MAFS is uneven it could cause the sensor to improperly read the airflow and make the car run rich
2. Might want to try and hook up a datalogger and see what the AFRs are across the rpm range.
3. What is the code that caused the CEL?

if you have 36k miles on a set of plugs. yep that is likely your problem.. one or two might not be firing..
and the cel is what?
would that cause a rich condition??? yes i think so.. take the time to check the wires and coils while you are at it..
hint, few get 25k miles out of the plugs..
beers

One thing I usually tell people is if they have an issue (that is possibly sensor related) its a good idea to reset the KAM first before you go out and spend money (plus it only takes a few seconds to do).
Now this code could be caused by:
1) A malfunction with the front O2 sensor
2) An issue with the pressure in your fuel line
3) A malfunction with the fuel pump itself
Like I said, reset to KAM first to see if it clears the CEL (I usually unplug the battery first, then reset the KAM). If it still occurs, take it to Mazda (though they might try to blame the CAI).

Swoope:
If it were spark plug related, wouldn't he get misfire codes (P0301 or P0302)?
Not saying that you're wrong because I thought about it being the spark plugs too, I just figured that misfire codes would come first.
beers to you too

i have had those codes with new plugs and old plugs.
the order..
plugs
wires not connected tight. might cause a misfire.
coils..
but 36 k miles on a set of plugs is silly... simple first.. and likely not driven hard enough to keep clean...
i have had a misfire code caused by low fuel...
beers
