CEL and symptoms

Got a CEL tonight, doing about 70 on the freeway. Never being one to leave it well enough alone, I drove around to get some symptoms.

No noticeable power loss... yet. It does seem to have jerkier power delivery, but it could be in my head. The only real issue I've had was once it wouldn't rev past 7500 rpm, but I was on a bump with negative g's and low on fuel, so it might have sloshed about the tank and not flowed right. The symptoms are overall consistent with a bad cat, but then, I have a Bonez Supercat. I've also had the starter/battery/plug TSB's done, but not the latest recall. Any ideas anyone?

Not sure what you mean by " The symptoms are overall consistent with a bad cat...", in the context of your statement "No noticable power loss...". Was this a momentary flash of the CEL when you were at speed? If so, it is probably the infamous random misfire that has plagued some owners. Generally, it's nothing to worry about if the performance of your car seems normal.

If you continue to get the CEL, have the dealer diagnose the problem. Could be a bad spark plug or coil, assuming it is momentary.

I've had a bad cat before, and the car acted similarly to the way it is acting now, but I don't understand HOW it could be a bad cat since I have an aftermarket one.

Some aftermarket CATs died in as little as 6 K Miles. Dont you EVER think that Aftermarket CATs will almost always last longer than stock.

Which one you have ?

you need to read the CEL with a OBD2 scanner and start from there, guessing isn't going to accomplish anything

I think I'm going to make this part of my Signature........PEOPLE........read the codes...then ask the question....even though you probably won't have to if you look up what the code means :

Could this be another member of the "oil-soaked air filter club"?
