Chirping noise at idle and low RPM
Okay so I'm always worried to post a new thread because the information is probably already out there but I just really can't find much this time. So about two months ago my car began to make a chirping noise that only happened about once a week and would go away after a few minutes of driving. Lately (the past week) however, it's been happening every single day and has become slightly louder. Seems to be coming from the drivers side of the engine bay if I had to get specific. It comes and goes randomly so that's also confusing. For some information I have an 04 6MT, I just hit 40,000 miles and replaced plugs, coils and wires less than 2000 miles ago. Compression hasn't been tested but feels fine, starts cold and warm well and performance is not affected. Already checked if it was the belt as well and that's not the issue, any help would be much appreciated. Hope it isn't anything serious

Chirping is loud enough to hear in the cabin with the windows closed (I have an aftermarket exhaust and it can even be heard over that) but isn't deafening, just audible. It seems to be from the engine bay and yes noise happens regardless of clutch pedal being depressed or not. The sound increases with engine rpm Wether that be revving or moving.

Try a fresh tank of fuel, with higher octane.
Have a read of the top post on this page.

If the chirping continues after a fresh tank of high octane fuel, one of your new coils might be dodgy.

I already use 93 but I'm due for a fill up soon so I'll see what happens then, I might upload a video of the sound later as well.

I can't watch the video at work, but there is a known "issue" where the clutch slave cylinder will chirp sometimes. Reaching up in there with some grease will make it stop, although sometimes it takes a week or so for the grease to work its way to the right spot. There have been a few threads on it, and there may even be a DIY on how and where to apply the grease.

That is the sound of pinging/detonation. Interesting that in the linked thread, the TSB (if that is what it is?) claims this is not harmful... Anyone care to weigh in on that?

Little confused, isn't knocking rare at idle and most common under load or heavy acceleration? In addition if pinging (detonation) were happening as frequently as the noise, wouldn't something more serious have happened by now?
Can't seem to find the threads but I'll keep looking, thanks for the input

I have the exact noise. It became very noticeable after I installed a RB catback.
I thought it was an exhaust leak so I re tightened everything and the issue remained. Doubt it's coils/plugs/cables since I have BHR set about 700 miles in and it did the same thing with the old coils.
I cleaned the SSV, Maf/ESS sensors, replaced the belts, checked the pulleys. Couldn't figure it out but the car seems fine. Haven't had any issues and it pulls hard with good compression. Sound is now drowned out by going catless so it doesn't bother me anymore.
Let me know if you figure it out
