cleaned SSV now it won't start
So my 04 MT had the SSV stuck open problem. I ripped it apart to clean it. In the process, the gasket got messed up so I had to order a new one... So after a week of it sitting torn apart, I finally get it back together and now it won't start. I've tried jumping it and holding down the accelerator while cranking it over, but it just turns over and doesn't even sputter. Could I have missed something when putting it back together that would cause this? Would leaving the battery out for a week do something to the immobilization system to keep it from starting? It started fine before and the plugs, coils, and wires were replaced last summer.

im having the same exact problem, i just put everything back together after taking everything off and completely cleaning the ssv. I'm almost positive i didnt forget anything in the process, but when i go to start it, my lights all dim, it just sounds like a horrible spitting sound and it will not completely start at all!

I realize OP's post is from a few years ago, but as for jbob3345....
Let me ask, did you spray carb cleaner or similar into the SSV housing to clean out all the gunk? I did the same thing only to realize that the rag i stuffed into the manifold was soaked and most of the cleaner was dripping into the combustion chamber. You probably flooded your engine. "Flooded" meaning that there is just enough of the cleaner in your engine that it won't start.
Look into the deflood procedure posted around here. Remove the fuse, take out the plugs, gas pedal down all the way, crank, put plugs back in + fuse. Crank while letting off the gas. It will take a few times, but that's how I solved my issue. Careful not to damage your starter. Go easy with the cranking.
Best of luck!

it's pretty easy to flood the engine with the cleaner while cleaning the inside of the manifold. clean the plugs after cranking and then perform the deflooding procedures until it starts to turn over.
