Clutch bearing engine light

I have a 56 plate 192 uk car. The engine light has come on the way home and I can hear what sounds like the thrust bearing (noisy when on idle, not depressed. disappears when pressed) would this cause the engine light to come on?

How much to replace? Give me the bad news.

No it would not have anything to do with the check engine light. Cost of replacing the TB (if it is that which it does sound like) would vary on your location.

Thanks, thought it might be. Im in the UK. Just getting a quote from a garage for both full clutch and just the bearing.

I was nearly ready to sell anyway. I've had it 2 years and have been using it daily for an nearly 60 mile round trip which is probably whats killed the bearing. Hopefully not the engine dead. The petrol and £500 road tax has been killing me but the car is such a nice drive.

Just got the quote back, they say they can only get the clutch as a kit. Whole job including vat is £480. That is a large whack.
I've found the bearing on it's own for £57.

The clutch itself feels fine, no slipping and not high. Is it a risk worth taking to take £200 quid or more off the price?

Bearings that are failing normally make a noise when under load, not free of load, are you sure it is the throw out bearing and not just the transmission spinning ,S1 transmissions are known to be noisy when in neutral.
Did you have the code read ?

In the process of getting a code reader, so not read it yet. Plugs and leads are due for renewal.

I've heard cars with thrust bearings go before and it seems to be them same. when I press the clutch it goes away. It's not a noise I've never heard it make and I've had it 2 years and driven 25k.

Would the gearbox feel slacker. I dont know if it's just me looking for difference. The engine light is whats worrying me.What else could it be?

Managed to get it for £425 with an exedy clutch at a local rx specialist. Rotary revs in Leeds. Labour is cheaper but they are using a more expensive clutch.

Engine warning light was lean fuel. Cleared at the specialist. Clutch was nothing to worry about. Got the plugs and leads done at the same time. Recommending rotary revs in Birstall. Seem to know what they are on about.
