Clutch going bad or what?

Parked in my driveway at about a 25 degree incline, motor off, car in 1st gear. I normally set the parking break but forgot to today. I opened my door to get out, took my foot off the brake, and the car rolled back about a foot. I reached over and pulled up the parking brake and it stopped.

Thinking it rolled because it wasn't in gear, I stepped on the clutch, shifted into 2nd, then back to 1st and released the clutch. I let off the parking break and the car rolled back slowly another foot or two before I set the brake again.

I've had the car almost exactly 4 years to the day. It's got 28,500 miles, most of which are normal driving. It's never been abused but I'll admit to being a "spirited driver" at times. Does this indicate a clutch gone bad?

That's normal, don't worry It's the same thing with AT's. You put it in park and it still rolls a little bit before the weight of the internal parts locked it out.

Oh, umm, I forgot to mention that my DSC was off (push and hold) prior to shutting the motor down (don't know if that is relevant) and that If I hadn't applied the hand brake it would have continued to roll in a "jerky" fashion 50 feet backwards down the driveway. . .!
I am well aware of the slight rollback you suggested Renesis SE3P and this ain't it, but thanks anyway.

has nothing to do with dsc..

what happened is normal.. if you put into 3rd it would have made the problem worse...

Swoope,

Just so I am clear. . . If my car is parked on an incline, motor off, in first gear, handbrake disengaged, I should expect it to roll backward??

depends on the incline.. and yes it will happen.. try the same incline in different gears. you will learn a lot..

nothing is wrong.. it is a weight vs incline vs gear ratio thing..
