Clutch noise and transmission issue
Hey All,
I've been a long time lurker on this forum, a lot of my issues have been resolved just by using search. I am now in need of advice for an issue that I cannot find listed in these forums.
My clutch started squeaking sometime last week, based on the advice I found on this forum, I quickly scheduled an appointment with the mazda service center. I assumed this was related to the clutch squeak TSB that mazda sent out a while ago and is well documented here. I got a call from the rep stating that the squeak is coming from near the transmission and that they need to get in there. He said it would take 5-6 hours and cost me $600 just to find out what the problem is.
The squeak (like a door opening) happens when I press down on the clutch while changing gears, it does not happen immediately after starting the car, but happens after a few minutes of driving. To me this sounded like the squeaky clutch issue.
I'm looking for advice on whether I should let the service center look at my transmission or get a second opinion. Also, has anyone else experienced this?

If your clutch pedal is squeaking then it will happen at all times. Get your head under the dash with a flashlight and check the clutch pedal bracket that is the part that breaks and ends up making noise. The squeak could also be the spring for the pedal, mine squeaks all the time but my bracket is fine. That tsb may have nothing to do with your problem if it is not the bracket.

Thanks for the quick reply xexok. What sort of squeak does your spring produce?
I did not see anything wrong when I looked under the pedal. The service guy did say the noise was coming out of transmission. I can't explain why the transmission would squeak when I press the clutch though, any insights?

hi, I appear to have a similar problem. I get a really loud squeaking almost rubbing like noise from my clutch when I let off the pedal. it only happens when I start moving or downshift. I thought it might have been that my clutch was worn out but it still grabs well. any suggestion on what it may be??

I'm having the dealership look at it. I will post back with what they find.
germster: Check if your clutch falls under the tsb. Search for threads with the tags clutch and squeak.

I was out on vacation and could not update this thread.
Here is what the service guy said (paraphrasing). The noise is coming from one the parts in the clutch assembly, I could replace those parts only (pivot, bearings) or I could do the whole clutch and save on labor costs. Existing clutch should last another 25000 miles.
I am considering just replacing the parts and replacing the entire clutch with something other than OEM when the time comes.
