Code P2259
I was driving my 8 today and the check engine light came on. When I arrived home, I plugged in my reader, and it brought up 2 codes P2259 and P2259P. How do you know if its the Air Pump Solenoid or Air Pump?
Check engine light is gone now and my 8 still seems to run fine.
Any thoughts??

P2259
What's up guys? I just bought a 2004 rx8 a few days ago. 116k miles. Bone stock. I was driving it pretty hard yesterday cruising with a friend. I parked it and 30 mins later when I started it up the check engine light was on. But ran totally normal (atleast as far as I know considering I just got it). I ran the code and it was P2259 secondary air injection system control B circuit low. Any advice to help out this rookie? Lol
Side note, it wouldn't let me post a new thread? That's why I had to reply to someone's post.

Check the fuse first. I believe its a 60A in the fusebox. It blew on me before and triggered a CEL for the air pump back when I had one.
If the fuse is good then it could either be the pump or the air pump solenoid behind the manifold.

I was out driving yesterday. I stopped for a coffee after a bit of driving. When I started it back up (5-10 min later) it kind of struggled to start and CEL came on again. It is running 2 codes P2259 and P2259 P. If it were a bad fuse would the CEL be on all the time?

wow I'm so sorry its 4 years later...
so I took off the solenoid. tested it with the blowing and 12v technique and it opens and closes fine and air flow travels past perfectly in the correct directions... but.. I still get the p2259 cel code.. I dont wanna buy a new solenoid if this ones fine and it's just something else... where should I look now? are there fuses somewhere? or is it the wiring harness/how do i check the harness? someone help please. need code fixed for inspection and this is the only code!

Hi jjennewe, if your rx8 sounds like the video i posted, then it's definitely the ssv, either it's too dirty and stuck in or the mechanism on the arm has worn out, either way you'll have to remove the ssv and inspect it. I did the same test as you on the solenoid and nothing was wrong with mine, peeped through the upper intake and can see that my ssv is dirty, so I'll post on here once i have done it.
Good luck.

ok, I dont think mine sounds like that.
it has a smooth idle, and I'm just hoping that a new solenoid fixes it.. or else I'm pulling the negative and doing my emission soon after. I need a car or losing my job. hope it's not the harness!😤

Code p2259
If it doesn't sound like that, it's only a matter of time and it will get worse. Mine had the code for about 3 months before the knocking noise started, i cleared the code with my scanner because i had passed my emissions test at the time. Mine also has super idle no problem starts hot or cold first time, but it's just that knocking noise that irritates me. Luckily it's my summer car and not happy not being able to use it this summer.
The only other option is that one of the hose is bad.
In fact that's what I'm going to try before removing my ssv.

The code means there is a break in the circuit somewhere. Could be as silly as dirt in the connector, but of course harness damage also possible. So I don't think a hose would cause that, its electrical.
You can grab a used solenoid at a junkyard? Or swap one of the other solenoids into that position to see if that makes the code go away.

Code P2259
Loki, for the work required to get the solenoids out, it's not worth putting a used one from a junkyard, get new ones at least you have the peace of mind that the fault has been fixed.
It took me the best of 2hrs to get mine out.

This is code definitely an electrical issue; either the solenoid, wire harness connector or wire harness itself.
You can swap solenoids with one of the other three. If the code changes to indicate the same problem with the SSV or VDI after swapping then the problem is probably the solenoid or the connector on the solenoid. If the code stays the same, then the problem is likely the wire harness connector or the wire harness itself.
If you clear the CEL, you'll reset the emissions readiness monitors and you won't pass OBD inspection. You need to fix this in order to pass.
