Coolant Light on - is it OK to take for test drive
Sorry to post yet another question but I have to be somewhere tomorrow morning. I finally got the car running after a week of deflooding and don't want to blow the engine or whatever.
The only thing wrong (seems to be running very sweet) is that the Engine Coolant Light is on. I have checked the level so presume it is a sensor malfunction or something.
Anyway two questions:
1) is it safe to drive for about 50 miles tomorrow
2) can anyone give pointers to checking this out - I have done a search here and cannot see anything. I am desperate to get back to my life and stop working on the car
Thanks in advance and apologies for posting a new thread but I need this sorted within 12 hours.
Aloha
Steve

Thank you for kind night night wishes. Hope you are both warmly wrapped up and snoring!
I had a quick look but is that the sensor on the side of the "bottle". I will certainly want to replace it.
Anyone done this - is it easy?
TIA

OK now for the dumb questions - presume it is the sensor but where is it - is it on the outside of reservoir and how does it work.... and where do I get a new one and how do I test it oh and what does the search button do................ To tired to worry about getting flamed and too poor. Just bought BHR ignition kit... am I mad?

1) You have to purchase a new coolant tank, which has the sensor built in. (You can't buy just the sensor.) The coolant sensor in earlier RX-8s tended to fail. The revised tank contains an upgraded sensor.
2) Go here and order this part: http://parts.arlingtonmazda.com/prod...2d351G%29.html
3) Ask for Tommy.

I have been fixed (checks underpants) but I think I will carry on with 2 as that has all my (many) current worries (and subscribe emails work on this one - forwarded through a mail intermediary).
Thanks for sorting it though allowed me to try to edit something.

Allow me to save you half an hour of reading posts and studying photos; this is all you need to do:

I must now look at taking the bottle off and will then give it a good clean out and see if that helps.
I have just paid about $150 for coils and cables, $120 for plugs, have now paid Charles $500 for sooper dooper coils and cable (anyone want some slightly used coils and cable) and am about to spend $110 on a compression test.
Also $25 for cabin air filter, $45 for air filter (that is a strange one to fit), $450 for new tires (cheap or what), $450 to get the roof resprayed (brutal sun here) and the dang car only cost $9,300 in JANUARY for goodness sake.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH I SAY!!!
OK rant mode off. Now going to make love to the bank manager so I can afford to keep this car running

Oh that would be lovely, if it is easy to do. Having the 2 really ain't a problem but it might be tidier. But please keep the email from 2 - I think that is what caused probs with 1 - I was trying to change the email to get the subscription emails. Your call oh super moderator.
