cranking problems (after motor change)
hey whats up guys? Haven't been on here in a while, thought i would share the wonderful news. I have a 04 rx8 that had low compression. So last week I went to mazda to let them fix it. They got me a new motor, and put it in, and I got the call it was ready on Thursday.. Brought it home (drove like a champ all the way home), was going to go out with the lady friend and the car would not start.... spinning over no spark just like before.. so i called and they told me to bring it up friday so they could look at it agian..
Friday morning i drove it up (after spending 20 mins to get it to crank). and after 5 hours of being there they could not find anything wrong.. at first they thought i needed another motor but the compression came back fine. Where we stand now is it may be the starter, they want the starter to spin at 300rpms but its only spinning at like 230-240rpms. the fuel pressure came back fine as well they really gave it the works...
All in all just looking for ideas, of what you guys think it could be... they are going to check everything for no cost to me anyway so might as well get it all checked out. They are pretty much grasping at straws replacing the starter. They told me they really dont know what could be causing it not to crank. If any of you guys have any ideas or thoughts let me know.

Stop wasting time with the dealership. This is going to be an electrical problem. Probably a missing or unsecured ground.
230-240rpm is within normal range for a starter. Replacement is only needed if it drops under ~200rpm, and recommended between 200 and ~220rpm. 250 is the standard for the test, so you are pretty close as it is. Brand new starters CAN get to ~290rpm, but even then not always.
Pull your battery cable connections, clean the clamps and the terminals, reseat them and get them secure. If that doesn't work, then start hunting for the grounds, including the starter ground and the engine block ground. While you are at it, clean the e-shaft sensor, and make sure that it is properly aligned to the main pulley (should be like a millimeter from touching the nub that you can feel along the edge of the pulley.
Something is preventing a spark from firing, or making the ECU not know when to add fuel and spark.

Ok well they are saying it is the starter. They say its spinning fast enough but there is a noise from the starter that is messing with the cranking sensor, and that's causing it not to start. They wanted to charge me over $550.00 to replace that. Hahaha. Yeah right.
