Cruise Control Works Intermittently

I've been having a problem with my cruise control. Some days I can power it on, and it works fine, and other days I can't power it on. If I've been using it and turn the engine off without turning the cruise control, it usually does not come back on the next day. If I wait a day or two, I can usually turn it on again. Does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

I currently have a CEL, with p0037 which refers to the after cat oxygen sensor. I intend to replace the o2 sensor, but could the intermittently operating cruise control have anything to do with the CEL? There must be a couple of gurus out there who know what could be causing this issue with the cruise control.

The car runs perfectly since I just changed the coils, plugs, wires, cleaned the MAF sensor, air filter, throttle body, and changed the oil. The intermittent cruise control has been happening for a couple of thousand miles now, and I have 78k miles on the car.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

It seems like this problem isn't very common with RX-8s. I've been searching the forum and Google for answers, but haven't found any.

Disconnecting the battery didn't help. I'm going to have to get my CEL code read again at Autozone, or buy my own reader. I just replaced my rear O2 sensor but still have a CEL.

I like to set my cruise ctl at 100 when i'm on a nice stretch of rd for an hour at a time. Doesn't your foot every get tired?
