Cylinder 1 Misfire PLZ Help!

Ok so ill start from the beginning of the issue. Before i had this problem i was changing my factory belt to a gates racing belt, and putting an AP pulley on. I started the car and did not like the pulley so i put the factory pulley back on with the gates racing belt.

After this was all done i noticed my engine light would come on when i drive the rpms up near 5k or more, if i drive the car below 5k the light stays off..... I have never had this problem before my above work,

I have replaced all four coils, put in new NGK plugs and wires. I also did a KAM and ECC reset both with no luck, when i drive the car and make the engine light come on i have no loss in horsepower at all..??? Every time i hook my code reader up it says cylinder 1 misfire. WTF

Does anyone know about this problem and have any idea that might get it fixed, i dont want to bring my car to my dealer i dont trust them.

O think it could be something with the fuel injectors?

What kind of engjne? If it's a CAS ( crank angle sensor) ignition system you may have bent a trigger or misaligned somethjng while messing with that belt. That might explain the transient CEL and the misfire. I

Misfires can also be caused by (things you haven't noted yet):
- Low compression
- Cat failure
- Aftermarket intakes
- MAF fouling
- intake screens askew or missing
- vacuum leak
- e-shaft sensor fouling
- injector clogging/failing
- bad gas


And plug wires could be pairing the coils to the wrong plugs, if you aren't 100% sure on the wire order. And plug wires might not be solid.

Plugs and wires are done right, i have an injen intake but like i said the issue never came up until i messed with the belt, i am using super for fuel. Sorry my car is a 2004, ya i probably should bring it to the dealer i guess it juest pissed me off so much i never had this issue before then all of a sudden boom

If it seems that messing with the pulleys and belts was the cause, then I bet it's your ESS. Either the sensor is nudged too far from the wheel, it's got some debris on it, or even the wheel itself isn't in the right orientation (but not sure if that is possible, never taken it off before).

You think its a good idea to put factory intake back on before i bring it to the dealer? Also any idea where the ess sensor is located?

It's a little magnetic sensor that sits right next to the front main pulley:


And yeah, the dealer would almost certainly point at your intake and say "that's causing it"

Sensor is on the pulley at about 4 o'clock from the front, the above pic is taken from below.

Thanks a lot seriously i think while doing the pully i hit it with my wrench, ill try it in the morning and let you know.=)

I tried it, it did nothing for me i am going to bring it into Mazda tomorrow and have them take a look=( ill let you know what they say.
