Damaged Rims

Hey, I have a question. If a dealer accepts to mount winter tires on 18's, and on the first rim the nylon piece that is on the machine to make sure your rim doesnt get damged breaks, and your rim gets damaged. Then the dealer takes your other 3 rims to 5 other local tire/custom rim shops until they find one that has the ***** to mount the winters and not damage the rims...and that rim place damages 2 of those 3 rims...is the dealer responsible? Also, what responsiblities do they have? The damage being long scratches along the lip of the rims...

IMO Yes. If they choose to they can try to get reimbursed by the other places that damaged them also.

I'm not sure if a repair is possible. I would lobby to get them to replace the wheels instead.

Question: Did you in any way authorize them to take the wheels to another facility for the mounting or did they decide to do that themselves?

I authorised it. But the company that did them are denying they did the damage. They say that their machine couldnt damage the rims. My dad's been a mechanic for 30 years...and knows what a rim looks like that has been scratched by the machine.

Request new rims and if they balk, document your experience with work orders and photos. Consult with an attorney and have him/her write the appropriate businesses a "nice" letter threatening lawsuit with punitive damages for your mental anguish. If they are all established businesses, they will want to settle the dispute as cheaply as possible. That translates to new rims in my opinion (and attorney fees, of course). Good luck!
