Yet another day a dealership can screw someone over, they're gonna charge me for the labor and they said "My mechanic cannot get the pcm to sync". This racingbeat flash that stealth told me about, does anyone know anything more about it??

Thankyou for the help but it won't work, i purchased the exact same one and mazda said it is not working.

I attached a list of PCM's their "mechanic" said will only work with my car.

I really just want my car back to running condition without spending 600-1000 on a brand new pcm

Have you talked to the actual mechanic? Can he get the original ECU to sync? It must have dried out by now :o
What does he even mean by "sync"?

I guess my question is whether the $71 ECU is actually functional.

No i have not talked to the actual mechanic, every time i call it's either the front desk lady or the service desk man

What other questions would be good to ask?
They said something like the "As is" or something like that could not sync to the new ecu that i bought

It's the " as built" data that they have to program the ECU with. The best way to deal with it is to call Mazda Tech and get the answers.....they should know whether it should work or not

That sounds like the dealer diagnostic device, I forget the exact acronym, but it's something like that. That would mean it has nothing to do with the car and more between the ECU and their system. One of those might be dead. Has the ECU shown any signs of life?

which ecu? the original was fried but i dont know the status of the one i bought

The original one is fried and they can't comunicate with their system, the other one "Failed" to have the as built data installed.
He didnt clarify at all what that really meant.
all he said was, i "need remanufactured pcm to fix my car"

At this point where could i look to just by a standalone ecu? would it be worth it?
The remanufactured one will cost me over 600

Junkyard? Ebay?
ECU failures are extremely rare, but it's possible you got a bad one, who knows where it came from.

It's possible the N3H6 is one of the early 16-bit ECUs, which makes almost no difference unless they're trying to load 32-bit software onto it (because your car originally came with 32-bit). Can you ask them to try loading the software that matches the ECU, not the car?

Im from washington.
i called them the mazda place said they have one that matches my exact part number in a junk yard in Oregon that they're ordering
That is what i heard from the parts department
then i got a call back saying the tech says that's bad and i need to get a remanufactured one
This makes zero sense to me because it's a direct match this time??

Car is alive and home after a total of $810.
Only to drive it a mile and start seeing problems, mainly the CEL that was just on from the cat is now flashing and juuuuust as i was less than half a mile from home my power steering went out...
Any clues, im gonna try resetting the steering with the left and right turning thing and also try and pull a code

Congrats, coils, spark plugs, clean the electric power steering connector under the overflow bottle.

What was the fix finally?

I would treat your symptoms as new ones. Like Loki said...clean the power steering connections and see if that fixes the issue. The CEL code for the other issue would help...just start there and see where it goes.

Thankyou! I had them order a pcm they found in oregon that was a direct part number match to the one that came out of mine.

Also i replaced spark plugs coils and cleaned MAF a few months ago. Is there any way the pcm could of fried a coil pack? cause flashing cel is misfire correct?

Also what is the overflow bottle? (ill probably look it up after i post this)
Side note, they changed my airbags if that could of affected the steering??

I don't think the ECU can kill a coil, but cheap coils have been known to not live very long. If you got them from Mazda or AutoZone, it's probably fine. If you got them on Amazon for peanuts, I'd be more concerned.

You have a code for the cat? Has it been gutted?

The steering thing is weird. The overflow bottle is where you radiator cap is. That container. The EPS connector under it is easy enough to get to, I'd give it a quick clean anyway. There isn't a heck of a lot else in the EPS system that can go wrong.

I don't think the airbag thing would have affected anything.

Yes that cat has been gutted which is why the code is there, was gonna check in to the defouling spray but never got around to it.

The coils are import direct which i got from orielly's
Ill give the connector a clean, should i use a type of spray?

Thanks for the help
