Deflooding Success
While I was gone and my buddy was watching my car for a while, one cold, cold morning he tried to start it after it had been sitting there for a few days and flooded it (2004 Rx-8 GT [velocity red ]). At the time I was still out of the country, and all I was looking forward to was do some zoom zooming when I got back, but unfortunately a flooded car was what I came back to. I was hoping to God that the battery was bad and it wasnt flooded but needless to say, the battery checked out. My buddy and I tried to push start the car but to no avail, we couldnt get it going fast enough without an incline, only got it to about 8 mph. I called the dealer and asked them how long and how much it would be to deflood the engine. They said the whole day and 200-300 USD. Right then I pulled out my bullshit flag. Theres no way I'm paying that especially with all the good info on here on deflooding. So I went to the crank for a while with the gas pedal to the floor. Doing it like the manual states at first not nope, didnt work. So then I decided to crank for 4-6 seconds in 3 min intervals or so [we hooked up jumper cables to my buddy's jeep]. When I first started it was a slow deep crank and didnt smell much of anything. After 3-4 times, I smelled a really strong gasoline smell and the cranking sounded way faster and crisper. I did it for a few more times, didnt really time it but it was a good 30 min that we did this. Once the cranking produced no gas smell, I did it about two more times and decided to toss the old pig skin around. We tossed for about 15-20 min and crossed our fingers. I got in my 8 and fired her up. OMG what a sigh of relief, and yes lots of white smoke + took a moment to calm down. I was practically peeing myself that I was so excited! Just thought I'd share my happiness, a little experience on a common problem and thanks for all who have contributed so much to this forum. "Cheers *chugs a beer* =P"
