Did something stupid, so please put my mind at ease
Ok, well, first off, you guys have an awesome forum over here! This being my first post, here's a little intro....
Just bought my first Rotary, an 05 RX-8 GT, 6-speed, with 6600 miles on the clock. The previous owner had parked it in his garage, and only drove it during summers, and rarely at that. The car literally doesn't have a single scratch on it, so, that being said, I'm glad to be here and take advantage of this awesome resource.
Ok, down to the nitty gritty. Last night my brother in-law and myself were driving home, and decided to have a bit of fun. We were on a deserted back road, and I came to a stop, turned off the TC, and launched it a bit higher in RPM than I had intended to (7000RPM). First off.... let me say, it was NOT my intention to launch the car that high into the rev zone. It just revs up a little quicker than I'm used to, and am still getting a feel for the car. Anyhow, the car hops a little, gains some traction, and off we go. Within moments afterward, my brother in-law notices that I have a CEL flashing on the dash. I'd say within about 10 seconds, the light went off. Oil level in the car looks good. Today, the light is off, as it was when I turned the car off last night, and seems to be driving fine/normal.
I'm ALMOST positive that it was a misfire (not that I'd feel it) judging from the posts on this forum, however, my question is more related to, if it was a misfire, could any long-term damage have been caused by my over eager driving experience? Granted, launching ANY car at 7k is bad, hard on the clutch, and the tranny, but I'm mainly referring to possible engine damage (from this single incident), to which I believe the answer is no. I'm mainly just looking for confirmation as the CEL didn't stay on.
What also goes w/o saying, I won't be doing that again (at such high rpm), and next time I'll be more careful. I'm typically VERY careful with my cars (especially this one), however, the fun just got a little out of hand. I'm 30 y/o and should know better, but sometimes the "fun factor" in this car gets the better of me. As you can tell, I'm beating myself up about it a bit, but am just hoping for the best.
Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the responses. Yep, the car feels the same in terms of power. I have real doubts that it did any sort of damage, however, I tend to go a little overboard with this car's condition, so I was just confirming.
I'll probably pull the plugs this evening just to make sure they look as they should.
