White Lithium based grease on all the sliding surfaces worked for about 1 year or so.
I will look into the felt.

As a less permanent fix, I have used some fairly viscous silicone grease to buffer the mechanical contact points in the slide mechanism and related. It works for a while until the grease wears off the points of contact.

Picking the right grease is an important consideration, don't want something that is water soluable nor something that could freeze, etc. Depending on your individual locale, other considerations might come in to play...

Mine used to rattle. Brought it to the dealer, said they "tightened" it (that's all they said) and I haven't had a problem since.

YUP, I just took mine in for an oil change last week and brought up the sunroof rattle. Dealership has ordered the parts and I should be getting it fixed some time this week.

I'll update with part #'s in a little bit.

mine just started rattling a couple weeks ago when totally open. me thinks a tightening is in order but i can't replicate the rattling unless i'm driving. i'll add that to the list of things the dealer needs to attend to on my next visit...

If you coud Jedi, please advise how the dealership went about the repair. I've been told by my primary servicing dealer that they have to take the entire headliner on the roof ceiling as part of the repair - just want to get confirmation from somebody who is actually having the fix done.

Thanks!

I have a rattle / loud tapping noise which only occurs when the sunroof is tilted. Originally thought it was coming from right rear of car, but can now confirm that is under the headlining. Dealer has tried to fix it on 3 occasions, and failed each time! (He had the car for 2 days last time and stripped out the headlining to 'make some adjustments').
Any ideas?

My dealer (Werner in "ManchVegas" NH) told me a couple of weeks back that Mazda had finally come out with a TSB and repair kit which involves replacing the rails/sliders. To install, it requires pulling out the headliner.

That TSB uses the word "squeak". Most of the complaints are "rattle".
Mine really rattles - especially on a rough road.

My sunroof rattles when it is tilted back. It is going in soon for the flooding tsb so I will request them to look into this as well.

Question

Thanks to Old Rotor for posting the TSB. It came as a suprise to my dealer! However, I believe there is a separate problem distinct from the squeak described, and that is the rattle that usually occurs with the sunroof tilted whilst driving on an uneven or bendy road, and appears to come from the left hand rail under the headlining. My dealer has yet to rectify this after 3 visits despite removing the headlining and 'making adjustments'. There appears to be quite a few of us with this problem. We will just have to nag our dealers until one of them comes up with the solution!

it's a royal pita to diagnose. that was the reason i didnt bother bringing it up when i was at the dealer the other day (that and the fact getting the brakes/AC/center console fixed was more important to me).

Thumbs down low rpm ratttle

My sunroof rattles/ vibrates when open and at a low RPM. I took it in and they heard the noise but cannot fix it. The dealership indicated it was it was from the body shaking, but indicated nothing would fix it..............in drive thru its so bad i am embarrassed

I finally got this fixed on my car! I've got the invoice at home and I'll put up the part #'s that the dealership ordered / replaced.

Just had the repair done under the "Sqeeking Noise from Sunroof" TSB (http://www.finishlineperformance.com...ins_index.html). Done deal!!! No more irritating rattles and sqeeks.

Mine actually looks pretty good. I haven't done the thorough inspection but at a quick glance, you couln't even tell they touched it. (except for the 3 finger prints I found near the map lights...easily cleaned off)

Same results as jedi54, minus the fingerprints. Werner Mazda in "ManchVegas", NH came through again!

Finally had my sunroof fix done today in accordance with the TSB. No rattles so far. Nice clean job with no damage or fingerprints! Dealer even valleted the car inside and out. Also had 36 month service done at same time. Didn't realise spark plugs were so expensive! (£62 plus 17.5% tax per pair........ouch!)
