E-brake giving me a hard time.

Sorry if this was posted before. I did some research but only found threads on ebrake light not the ebrake snapping back down. long story made short.. i left the car outside for the entire night last night and the temperature was about -25C, somethign like -15F or around that..then this morning i drove home and after parking i turned the car off and tried to use the ebrake but it snapped back down, i took me about 4 tries to get the ebrake to work and stay in the normal position. Asked some classmates and they said it could be a cable that broke or it is just too cold. This is the FIRST time my ebrake is giving me any issues, even before parking the car last night, the ebrake was perfect. For the details, the car has about 48000 miles and maintenance up to date. Got new rear pads last september.

Thanks agian

hmm I don't see why the cold would have any effect on it. Were the "teeth" clicking into place?

yeah i dont really see how the temp could affect it. My friend mentioned some stuff but didnt make much sense to me, of course i could be wrong and for the teeth question yes and no! really hard to explain. They wouldnt click if i pull the ebrake up at normal speed but if pull it up and hold it they click and if i remember right, there was a bit of more tension when pulling the ebrake up and then it would but cant confirm it 100%. I havent moved my car since this morning since i got my gf to drive me today and when i got home i tried to push my car into my garage with 2 more people but it was frozen to the ground (yes it happens in canada people) and it was wayyyyyyyy to cold to try for more than 1 minute and didnt want to turn the car on to move it 10 feet and let it warm up for like 10 minutes so i dont really know if the problem is still there or a 1 time issue. I wanted to move the car in to see if the temperature was a factor but didnt happen

Making a wild *** guess here. Pulling on the ebrake was compressing the cable and not the calipers. A lot of tension in the cable built up that way, maybe more than the locking mechanism on the handle could handle. Hence the snap back.

Hey again! So i finally drove my car this morning and the problem with the ebrake stopped out of no where! like it "fixed" itsellf I was really surprised! The temperature did go up by like 15C so i guess maybe the temperature was a factor. Thanks a lot for the help
